In this article, a specific example is given to illustrate that rent seeking can raise welfare under full seeking in general equilibrium: an import quota is levied in the presence of domestic monopoly in the import competing industry. An import quota is considered instead of an import tariff since a tariff confers no market power on the local monopolist. The monopolist still faces a perfectly elastic demand, corresponding now to the world price plus tariff. The introduction of monopoly does not add another distortion to the economy, which is necessary if full rent seeking is to be welfare improving. But …

He utilizes in-depth case studies as well as a large database to look at the costs and benefits of such programs, also the determining factors for why firms choose to implement literacy programs.

It is intuitive that controlling forecast errors should result in better customer service and lower inventories. But forecast errors come from various sources. Multistage manufacturing experiences supply and lead-time uncertainties as well as demand uncertainties, and manufacturing has more than one lever to pull when addressing these uncertainties. The relationship of forecast errors to manufacturing performance is not clear. Furthermore, the pursuit of forecast accuracy may not be the best use of managerial resources.
