Sharing The Wealth: Movement Toward Gender Parity In Managerial & Professional Specialty Occupations From 1950 To 1980, D. Leeann Jolly

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Data on the managerial and professional specialty occupations that were specified by the United States Census of the Population for the years 1950 through 1980 were used to analyze the influence of occupational sex ratios, growth rates, and male and female salary levels on the ability of females to move into those occupations. An analysis of the change in the Standardized Occupational Sex Ratio (SSR) showed that, over the thirty year period studied, growth rates became more important than salary levels in influencing movement toward parity in high status occupations.

Before the 1980 census year, occupational growth rates were found …

Strategy Textbooks: A Case Of Consistently Inconsistent Evaluations, Cathy A. Enz Jan 1986

Strategy Textbooks: A Case Of Consistently Inconsistent Evaluations, Cathy A. Enz

Cathy A. Enz

"This book is too superficial, but it meets my needs better than others available." This quotation illustrates the equivocal praise which business instructors provide the textbooks that they adopt for their capstone policy courses. Ten representative strategy/policy textbooks were reviewed and almost all of them received at least one instructor's nomination as the best strategy textbook available, yet reviewers consistently identified deficiencies and their intent to change books. What is it about business strategy/policy textbooks or courses that brings out consistent inconsistency across text users even when they evaluate the same book? In the present review a representative group of …

The Alternate Incentive To Early Teacher Retirement, Vernon Dean Guinn Jan 1986

The Alternate Incentive To Early Teacher Retirement, Vernon Dean Guinn

Masters Theses

The major emphasis of the study was to formulate an answer to the question being asked by the study group under the Illinois Project for School Reform, "How to improve the quality of teachers within the school system?" Specifically, this study analyzed the results of a study done by the Planning and Research Department of the State Board of Education, prepared in April 1977. Under this study's proposal, four areas of substantial disincentives were identified as reasons for teachers not taking early retirement. The age discrimination effect has since been overcome with early retirement incentives now being offered in many …

A Review Of Personnel Policies And Procedures Developed For St. Charles County In 1984, Richard L. Balicki

Theses

This paper will discuss the development, design and formulation of personnel policies and procedures for St. Charles County in 1984. At the time the process of development started, the county was without an approved personnel policies and procedures system and was concerned about a possible federal audit that could result in their losing federal funds because of the lack of formal policies.

In order to develop a system that would be used by the various county offices, input was sought from elected and appointed officials as well as other levels of county employees. The success and failure of this method …
