Acquiring Small And Medium-Sized Companies: A Study Of Corporate Decision Behavior, Daniel Joseph Power

This field research study investigated corporate acquisition decisions made by managers in U.S. manufacturing and conglomerate firms. The introductory chapters review organizational decision theories and empirical research on organizational and acquisition decision making. The thesis presents and investigates hypotheses for two descriptive models: a prediction model and a decision-process model. Through mail questionnaires, data were gathered about 28 acquisitions completed between October 1, 1979 and March 31, 1980. Managers were asked for retrospective information about decision activities and for a current assessment of the acquired company's performance . The four quarter ahead forecasts of out-of-state domestic visitor arrivals for the first through the fourth quarter of 1983 are presented in the graph below and also in the table on the following page. These forecasts project 33,249,000 total domestic visitor arrivals for the four quarters of 1983. The 1983 forecast is 6.2 percent higher than the actual visitor arrivals for 1981 and 1.2 percent lower than the estimated visitor arrivals for 1982.

This study investigated middle managers' perceptions concerning factors and conditions necessary to implement and adapt a career development system within an organization. More specifically, this study drew implications regarding the vital role played by middle managers in the initiation, implementation, and adaptation of a career development system in a large industrial organization.

Five research questions dealing with the role of middle managers in implementation of career development systems were investigated by means of an interview schedule developed by the researcher adapted from instruments developed by the American Management Association (Walker & Gutteridge, 1979) and Burack and Mathys (1980). A Survey Of Graduates Of A One-Year Clerical Office Block Class —1976-1981— With Recommendations For Curriculum And Course Content Revision, Audrey Lee Watson

Data were collected by means of a questionnaire sent to 92 Maple Valley Office Block students who graduated in the years 1976-1981 to determine if students are adequately prepared to acquire entry-level clerical/secretarial positions and to adjust to positions in business. Sixty-five questionnaires were returned for a 70% return.

Over 70% of the respondents were employed at the time the survey was conducted. Over 90% indicated the use of keyboarding equipment on the job. Almost 60% of the respondents used shorthand or machine transcription on the job. Frequent job responsibilities included filing, business machine usaqe, telephone usage, receiving visitors, and …

This paper presents a precedent oriented computer assisted method of designing, analyzing and evaluating systems of internal controls. The ..!..nternal Control _!iodel, TICOM III, is fundamentally a design and analysis tool useful in the context of Automated Office Information Systems (AOIS's). Traditional analysis and evaluation tools, such as flowcharting, written narratives and questionnaires, are inefficient, if not insufficient, to support the design and control analysis of these new systems. This Flood Insurance Study investigates the existence and severity of flood hazards in the City of Layton, Davis County, Utah, and aids in the administration of the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. This study will be used to convert Layton to the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Local and regional planners will use this study in their efforts to promote sound flood plain management.
