The Classification Of Second Homes: A Proposed System Based On An Inventory And Selected Analysis Of Second Homes In Sevier County, Tennessee, David Ridgway Mosena Sep 1971

The Classification Of Second Homes: A Proposed System Based On An Inventory And Selected Analysis Of Second Homes In Sevier County, Tennessee, David Ridgway Mosena

Masters Theses

Second homes, primarily used as vacation housing, have substantially increased in number in the United States over the past ten years. They differ from primary dwelling units in physical design, types of tenancy, types of occupants, and in the pattern and intensity of their use. Since second home growth may have both positive and negative effects on the economic, social, physical, and environmental character of a particular area, local and regional planning agencies must take them into consideration.

The purpose of this study was to construct a classification system for second homes in order to facilitate the collection and analysis …

Utilization of computer processing of the data can provide quantitative information in minimal time for major planning decisions.

It was the purpose of this research 1) to determine an optimal equipment arrangement among four types of layouts for an entree-production center and 2) to demonstrate the value of the computer-assisted method in optimizing equipment arrangements.

The production sequences indicating equipment utilization and frequency factor for each of …

An Empirical Test Of Linder's Trade Hypothesis, James Norman Carnes Jul 1971

An Empirical Test Of Linder's Trade Hypothesis, James Norman Carnes

Economics Theses & Dissertations

Attempts have been made recently to empirically test several theories of the basis of international trade. These efforts have been concentrated mainly on the empirical testing of the Heckscher-Ohlin and the classical international trade theorems. The results so obtained are both complementary and conflicting. Although a greater degree of empirical relevance has been observed in the Ricardian model than in the Heckscher-Ohlin theorem, so far no sophisticated effort appears to have been made at the empirical testing of Linder's trade hypothesis.

Linder's thesis is that a country cannot achieve comparative cost advantage in that line of production for which there …

An Analysis Of The Ability And Achievement Of Business Education Students Compared To Non-Business Education Students, William B. Warberg

Dissertations and Theses

Since some educators believe the underachiever and the low-ability student are frequently placed in business education classes for the purpose of finding him an easy way through school, this study attempts to determine just where the business education student actually ranks in achievement and ability as compared to students in other academic areas.

The students used in this study come from the graduating classes of 1969 and 1970 of Beaverton and Sunset High Schools in Beaverton, Oregon. A business education student has been defined as one who has successfully completed at least two of the following courses: Shorthand II; Office …

A Study Of A Portion Of The Distributive Education Teacher Preparation Program At Utah State University, J. Grant Brough

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The major purpose of distributive education is to prepare the student for entry-level employment in distributive occupations. This preparation should help workers become successful and advance in their chosen field of distributive occupations.

No matter how instruction is organized, when it is identified as vocational distributive education, there are no differences in the results desired. Students are to be able to meet employment qualifications with the confidence and the competencies necessary to begin marketing and management careers.

To meet this goal, the student should qualify himself to receive satisfaction and contentment in his work. Sidney P. Marland's deep expression in …

Marketing Strategy Study Of The Taylor Soil Moisture Tester, Allen Leron Johnsen May 1971

Marketing Strategy Study Of The Taylor Soil Moisture Tester, Allen Leron Johnsen

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Marketing , some people say, need not be very complicated or costly. Their argument is summarized in Emerson's old adage, "If a man...makes a better mousetrap...the world will beat a path to his door." Such persons are sure that all one must do to succeed in business is to develop a good product,

The mousetrap adage may perhaps have been true when it was first expressed, but it certainly is not true today . The creation and production of a good mousetrap--or any other good product--in and of itself, is not enough to assure a man's fortune, In modern, well-developed …

A Review Of Private Fund Raising At Utah State University With Recommendations For Increased Private Financial Support, Allen Leron Johnsen May 1971

A Review Of Private Fund Raising At Utah State University With Recommendations For Increased Private Financial Support, Allen Leron Johnsen

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Higher education was hardly over a period of tremendous expansion strain following World War II When it was faced with even more critical pressure caused by an exploding population, a larger percentage of people requiring a college education, and increased demands for services and research on the part of governments and business.

It is small wonder then that funding of higher education has multiplied in scope far beyond the modest appropriations of state legislatures and equally modest philanthropic support of pre-war years. The efforts to advance the understanding and support of educational programs have created whole new administrative departments in …

An Evaluation Of The Entity Theory As A Partial Solution To The Non-Comparability Enigma Of Inter-Firm Income Statement Analysis, Lester Lee Schmidt Jr.

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study has been to evaluate on deductive grounds the proposition that income as determined according to the entity theory would be more comparable among firms than income as determined under contemporary generally accepted accounting principles, and to investigate whether or not empirical support exists among two professional groups for the propositions inherently contained in the entity theory.

Activity Analysis Of Personnel On Patient Trayline Assembly, June Bishop

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The systems approach in food service administration is the initial step in analyzing current procedures to determine the effectiveness of resource utilization. Analysis begins with observation of a system to provide possible explanations of the system behavior.

The purpose of this research was to determine through work sampling the proportion of both productive and nonproductive labor time of operators on the tray assembly, the labor time and labor cost required in each position and for each meal, and to test the hypothesis that there was no significant difference between the productivity index (trays per minute) during Phase A and Phase …

Some Laboratory Experiments To Test The Unity Of Command Principle, James Miller Wilson Jan 1971

Some Laboratory Experiments To Test The Unity Of Command Principle, James Miller Wilson

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study reports on three separate laboratory experiments designed to test the validity of the principle of unity of command. This principle of classical organization theory had its popular beginning with Henri Fayol and is based on common sense and experience, but has apparently never been scientifically tested using objective measures of performance. The null hypothesis was stated as follows: "There is no significant difference in the performance or morale of individuals who work under conditions of unity of command and individuals who work under conditions of disunity of command".

Subjects in each experiment performed tasks under controlled conditions in …

Causes Of The Mormon Boycott Against Gentile Merchants In 1866 And 1868, Peter Neil Garff Jan 1971

Causes Of The Mormon Boycott Against Gentile Merchants In 1866 And 1868, Peter Neil Garff

Theses and Dissertations

In the 1850s and 1860s Gentiles monopolized the mercantile profession in Salt Lake valley. Conflict arose between the Mormons and anti-Mormon merchants for essentially five reasons: Mormon Church leaders believed merchants charged exorbitant prices, encouraged the coming of Johnston's army, falsely accused them for the "assassination" of two Salt Lake City Gentiles, supported Gentiles who were "jumping" Mormon land claims, and supported an adamantly anti-Mormon newspaper. Church leaders maintained that the motive behind these actions was essentially the destruction of their church; therefore, they levied a boycott against the anti-Mormon merchants in 1866.

Because Church leaders felt the coming of …
