A Hands-On Museum For Children, Stephanie Townsend
Graduate Theses
This paper concerns itself with the preparation for the development of a children's hands-on museum. Included is a definition of such a museum, a rationale for this type of museum, organizational considerations of a community museum, four exhibits intended to stimulate and guide children's cognitive processes, and a brief summation. The rationale for this children's museum is derived primarily from Piaget's theory of cognitive developmental psychology. Thus, the exhibits are exemplars of Piagetian curriculum. The organization section emphasizes Guthe's philosophy concerning museum organization.
Non-Standard Workweek Scheduling Technique Selection, John Alexander Oak
Non-Standard Workweek Scheduling Technique Selection, John Alexander Oak
Theses
This thesis presents a description of non-standard work scheduling techniques and a comparison method which enables decision-makers to differentiate between available work-scheduling alternatives with the purpose in mind of selecting the most appropriate and suitable arrangement. The method developed calls for the decision-maker to follow a five-step sequential process to obtain final results. The ingredients necessary to achieve such final results are obtained in a manner similar to that demanded by decision-making-under-uncertainty conditions commonly followed in actual industrial settings.
Since the primary objective of business management is the achievement of a profit through the manipulation of available resources, initial sections …
A Study To Determine Why Forkner Shorthand Students Do Or Do Not Enroll In The Intermediate And Advanced Levels Of Shorthand At Utah State University, Mary Diskin
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
Shorthand plays a very necessary part in preparing our office education students. There has been much discussion as to which type of writing system is more efficient. Some authorities in the field fee l that abbreviated longhand systems can be learned more easily than symbol systems.
According to Wagoner:
The usual advantages claimed for various abbreviated longhand systems are: the ease of converting from longhand to an abbreviated longhand system, a shorter learning period than a symbol system, and the ease of transcription. (1960, p. 21)
Since the Forkner system is based largely on what the learner already knows, the …

Those persons involved with the curriculum in the Business Education Department at Utah State University need to be kept informed of the current location and employment status of graduates from the distributive education program at that institution. If the graduates are employed in distributive education positions, a knowledge of their attitudes toward the curriculum they followed at the university will help in evaluating and upgrading to meet the needs of a changing world. The first program of cooperative education was established in 1906, and by 1942 there were thirty programs in the country. During World War II, all cooperative programs were stopped in the interest of getting people through school as quickly as possible. When programs were resumed after the war, the pace picked up some, going from 26 programs in 1946 to 130 programs in 1968 (Ferris, 1969, p. 480).
The primary objective of cooperative vocational education is to turn out skilled, responsible young adults who upon graduation from high school can assume a productive place in our technical society. A successful …

A Study To Determine Why Cache County, Utah, High School Students Do Or Do Not Enroll In Second-Year Shorthand, Rebecca B. Boswell
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
According to Wanous, the number of students enrolled in shorthand has increased steadily since 1926. However, Wanous states that the number of students enrolling in third and fourth semesters of shorthand is considerably smaller than the number of students enrolled in the first-year shorthand courses.
Anderson's study in which the transcription of first-year shorthand students has been analyzed shows that students can learn shorthand outlines during- the first year of shorthand, However, there is not enough time to acquire adequate skill in the taking of dictation or transcribing dictation to enable the students to obtain a stenographic position. In general, …

Several commonly used concentration measures are defined and discussed. The Grossack Model of Permanent Industrial Concentration and its three concentration indices are explained. Monte Carlo Techniques are used to generate synthetic data which is then used to compute theoretical values of the Grossack Model Indices. Values of other commonly used concentration indices are computed for comparison purposed. The Grossack Model Indices are then subjected to a variety of statistical tests. The results of these tests are presented and evaluated and a conclusion is drawn.
