Katie’S Closet: An On-Campus Experiential Learning Project, Julie Nelsen, Mary Henderson, Pa Kou Yang
Business Administration Faculty Scholarship
Two faculty and one undergraduate student embarked on an applied learning experience to determine the feasibility of starting a free professional clothing shop for University students called Katie's Closet. All aspects of conceptualizing and testing the Katie's Closet pop-up-store concept began from a feasibility study. With the support of faculty mentors, the undergraduate student researched, analyzed, and executed the project. The action research project started with informational interviews and a focus group for gathering qualitative data on the student population's needs. These findings led to more research to explore potential collaborative partnerships with other University departments. Competitive benchmarking also supported …

The first part of this report discusses my time as a remote intern during Summer 2020 for the Tanzanian organization, MikonoYetu. MikonoYetu is an NGO that seeks to promote the empowerment and economic independence of young girls, and my team and I were tasked were creating and designing their live website. This internship was supervised by Western Heads East, who also tasked my team with reviewing and suggesting changes for their current website. In this final report about her 2020-21 internship at London’s Grand Theatre, Kaitlyn Lonnee discusses the ups and downs of an internship in the world of an international pandemic; the work she completed as a contributor to a souvenir publication meant to document the Grand’s historic multimillion-dollar renovation and modernization by interviewing theatre staff, board members, and donors; the skill sets, lessons, and relationships she has come away from the experience with; the value of internships and community learning experiences; how SASAH contributed to her success in this position; and finally, her plans for the future.

To fulfil my SASAH experiential-learning requirement, I worked as an intern at the Stratford Festival Archives in 2017 and travelled to Ecuador as part of a Women’s Empowerment trip in 2018. At the Festival, my colleague and I were responsible for designing the Archives’ first-ever digital catalogue. We researched the provenance of each costume piece, which often included looking through design bibles and conducting informal interviews. We then photographed and wrote detailed descriptions for each costume piece.
