his report discusses the results from the Make it Work for Lincoln survey of employers conducted by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Bureau of Business Research (UNL-BBR). The survey of employers in the Lincoln Metropolitan Area was conducted under contract with the Nebraska Department of Labor and with the participation of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and ATD-Lincoln. The report examines the types of occupations Lincoln area employers are searching for and hiring, and the types of difficulties employers face when hiring. Training program evaluation is essential in developing and sustaining effectivetraining interventions. More specifically, measuring learning transfer is essential toany training program as it determines whether learning has occurred and if thelearning objectives have been met. Kirkpatrick (2005), stated that training programevaluation is used “to decide if a program should be continued, to decide if aprogram should be modified, and to demonstrate the value of training – and thusjustify our existence [as trainers/human performance technologists/consultants]” (p.19). The purpose of this study was to describe challenges in evaluating training andhow technology can aid in this process.

The term webinar has become part of the English language, but use of this technology is not yet widespread. Can a webinar help a small marketing firm reach its broad audience efficiently and effectively? That was the question asked by Harvest Retail Marketing before it decided to launch its webinar series. This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages as well as best practices of webinars when used by a small marketing firm. The research also presents “next” practices that can be used in the planning and presentation of a first-time webinar by other small marketing firms.

This paper looks at how Australian managers perceive the training they receive from their organisations in order to meet increasing expectations that they coach their employees. 580 managers in Australian organisations provided information regarding their coaching training experiences, and that which they would ideally like to obtain, from their organisation. The level of coaching training varied widely from coaching-specific training to no preparation at all. Any training provided was generic coaching training. From our findings we see a distinct need for tailored and more detailed training opportunities for managers, a more structured and coordinated approach to within-organisation coaching initiatives.
