The Qualitative Report
This study aimed to analyze the barriers faced by farmer groups in establishing a cooperative to manage a machinery rental business. The qualitative method with a multi-case study approach was used in this study with farmer groups as the research objects and chairpersons and members as the participants. The chairpersons were chosen by purposeful sampling and the members by snowball sampling. Data collection techniques were in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The data credibility tests were triangulation and member checks. Purpose: The study aims to examine and compare the workers’ perception towards various labour welfare facilities provided in the co-operative and private sugar mills of Punjab state of India. The study also examines the association of perception scores for welfare facilities with the personal characteristics of workers. Methodology: Data was collected from 490 workers (280 from co-operative sugar mills and 210 from private sugar mills) with the help of a structured questionnaire. This action research aims to explore the issues of microfinance and women’s empowerment in urban Indonesia, and the role of accounting on the issues. Drawing on critical accounting theory, this study employs feminism and empowerment theory based on Foucault’s work to investigate the activities of female micro-entrepreneurs who are members of a Sharia cooperative. The study was conducted using an action research method for eight months with observation and interviews with 40 female micro-entrepreneurs. The Walmart Initiative was designed to provide technical support to train at least 200 farmers on best practices in marketing produce to larger companies and corporations like Walmart. This support was provided through specialized training, workshops, informational group meetings, and overall awareness of market opportunities. The specialized training included Food Safety Standards and Food Safety Certification requirements, effective production techniques, harvesting, grading, packaging, refrigeration/cold chain requirements, transportation, fiscal responsibility, financial management, record-keeping, and insurance and product liability. This paper integrates several theoretical perspectives to discuss the attributes of successful implementing strategic alliances and supply chain management strategies in high-technology industries. A multiple- case study of Taiwanese and Chinese electronics industries is presented to demonstrate how and why different firms apply different technology strategies in alliances and supply chain formations.
