Will More Technology In Accounting Become Another Barrier To Attracting And Retaining Black Students To The Profession?, Darlene Booth-Bell, Kristen E. Broady, Axsel Brown

Southern University College of Business E-Journal

Automation in the form of drones, machine learning, computer vision, robotic process automation, artificial intelligence, and robotic software applications will continue to increase productivity and reduce the need for some workers. While there may not be an immediate reduction in accounting professionals, data analytics has begun to shift the primary skill sets needed for accountants in the United States and abroad. In this paper, we identify and discuss the main challenges the profession faces in attracting black students to the profession. Additionally, we present a theoretical discussion of the challenge of ensuring that as more accounting work moves from traditional …

The Coverage Of Aiot Based Functional Service: Case Study Of Asian Futuristic Hotel, Gege Wang, Irini L. F. Tang, Eric Chan, Wai H. W. Chan

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing

The combination of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (AIOT) have been developing as a prevalent technology for applications in many industries and buildings. This research deliberately chooses a leading hotel in the application of automation to examine the coverage of using the AIOT. A recent functional framework of AIOT was used to investigate the functional attributes via observation to confirm the availability. Then the study proceeded to interview with 10 professionals in the hospitality businesses to solicit their views about the implementation of the same AIOT facilities in other hotels based on the tabled analytical results.

Does Coronavirus (Covid-19) Transform Travel And Tourism To Automation (Robots)?, Omar Parvez, Ali Ozturen, Cihan Cobanoglu

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing

Global coronavirus is the name of consternation. It has a depraved impact on world health, the international economy, as well as the travel, tourism, and hospitality (TTH) industry. The World Health Organization (WHO) already declared an international public health emergency in the concern of cases and deaths. Tourism is a human-intensive industry, but on one side, the circumstances of the virus separate people from personal interaction, on the other side, technological development offers automatic robots to the service. So the future of the TTH might be transformed toward automation (robots). The paper aims to extend the knowledge by investigating and …

Automation Anxieties: Perceptions About Technological Automation And The Future Of Pharmacy Work, Cameron W. Piercy, Angela N. Gist-Mackey Apr 2021

Automation Anxieties: Perceptions About Technological Automation And The Future Of Pharmacy Work, Cameron W. Piercy, Angela N. Gist-Mackey

Human-Machine Communication

This study uses a sample of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians (N = 240) who differ in skill, education, and income to replicate and extend past findings about socioeconomic disparities in the perceptions of automation. Specifically, this study applies the skills-biased technical change hypothesis, an economic theory that low-skill jobs are the most likely to be affected by increased automation (Acemoglu & Restrepo, 2019), to the mental models of pharmacy workers. We formalize the hypothesis that anxiety about automation leads to perceptions that jobs will change in the future and automation will increase. We also posit anxiety about overpayment related to …

The Futurist, Ryan Stenquist

Marriott Student Review

Ubiquitous self-driving cars, robot workers, and massive political shifts may seem far away and irrelevant to our day to day lifestyles. However, Mr. Schenker proves that these changes are fast-approaching and come as timely responses to the problems and opportunities of today.

Technological Change, Automation And Employment: A Short Review Of Theory And Evidence, K. V. Ramaswamy

International Review of Business and Economics

A selective survey of recent papers in the area of technological change, automation and employment is presented. The objective is to convey analytical ideas and the empirical evidence that have informed studies in this area of contemporary policy relevance. Automation occurs when a machine does work that might previously have been done by a person. How robots and automation affect the availability of jobs for labor force? There are very few emerging studies that address the issue with detailed data on robots usage and employment in different sectors of the economy. Based on our review of available studies and empirical …

Where Will Technology Lead Us?, Jerry Kennelly Jan 2018

Where Will Technology Lead Us?, Jerry Kennelly

Irish Business Journal

Artificial intelligence is a misnomer in my opinion. You get out what you put in. AI seeks to simulate intelligent human behaviour in software and computers. If you consider AI software like a big database and learns along the way. It is programmed by clever humans who create algorithms which use all of the data available and process it to give a calculated result. For example, my IPhone will tell me that it’s going to take me ten minutes to drive home when I walk onto the street from my office in Killorglin. It doesn’t know I’m going home, but …

Workflow Management System: A Customized Solution For Project Automation And Tracking, Amanda Harlan, Dhanushka Samarakoon Nov 2016

Workflow Management System: A Customized Solution For Project Automation And Tracking, Amanda Harlan, Dhanushka Samarakoon

Kansas Library Association College and University Libraries Section Proceedings

K-State Libraries have many complex digital workflows that involve multiple people and departments. One, in particular, had the ongoing issues of tracking different stages, individual responsibilities, information gathering, notifications, and uploads done manually. Due to the inefficiency that this caused, it led to the development of an open source workflow management system (WMS)

A Predictive Analytic Model For Value Chain Management, Joseph O. Chan Jan 2007

A Predictive Analytic Model For Value Chain Management, Joseph O. Chan

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Value chain management has gone through various stages of automation, integration and optimization in the past decades. While an optimization model for value chain deals with business scenarios under known circumstances, a predictive value chain model deals with probable circumstances in the future. Predictive analytics is succeeding optimization in the evolution of technologies supporting value chain management. This paper proposes a forward looking value creation model that combines the important concepts of value chain management and predictive analytics. An enterprise model for value chain predictive analytics that facilitates the convergence of information, operations and analytics is presented.
