Research indicates at-risk youth (ages 15-24) in Southeast San Diego are likely to be unemployed or underemployed, and lack the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue meaningful living-wage (or better) employment. A review of the literature and primary data collection is presented and suggests an individualized career development program, supported by family members, community mentors and peers, would improve the opportunity for these youth to secure meaningful living-wage (or better) employment. The researchers propose the implementation of such a program, utilizing a quasi-experimental study design to determine program effectiveness. Program objectives, work plan, assessment, social marketing, program evaluation, and proposed …

Students in the Huntsman School of Business were given first-hand insight into leadership techniques employed by one of the most outstanding business leaders in the world. On November 16, Jim Quigley was the guest speaker at the Dean’s Convocation. Much of his address focused on the importance of trust and ethics in the workplace. “Trust and confidence are absolutely essential in order for a leader to be able to function effectively,” he said. “When trust and confidence in a leader weakens, that leader no longer functions effectively.” Mr. Quigley also spoke to a large group of accounting students about the …

Plan C: The Full-Time Employee And Part-Time Entrepreneur, Erin Albert
Plan C: The Full-Time Employee And Part-Time Entrepreneur, Erin Albert
Butler University Books
Once upon a time in America, the world of work was simpler. We were told to go for Plan A: Go to a great college, since your parents probably didn't get the chance. Then go to a professional school--medical, dental, law, you pick it. Then graduate, and get the very best ‘professional' job you can. Work your dupa off. Work 60 hours a week. Give 150%, even though you don't own anything. Become an employee! However, you're expendable. And...you're laid off.
Then we could try Plan B: Go through twelve stages of losing job. Declare that you'll chuck it all …

Famous Chefs And Fabulous Recipes: Lessons Learned At One Of The Oldest Cooking Schools In America, Lisa Abraham, Catherine St. John

Hudson, Ohio, has all the charm of a Connecticut watercolor. A quaint clock tower stands on the village green. A little further up the road, the chiseled buildings of Western Reserve Academy, founded in 1826, dot the landscape. Red-bricked shops make downtown window shopping a weekend event. If Jimmy Stewart showed up as George Bailey, residents wouldn’t bat an eyelash. Tucked into this historic enclave is one of the oldest cooking schools in America, the Western Reserve School of Cooking.
Originally founded by Zona Spray, and now run by Catherine St. John, the intimate institution has been a destination for …

Governance
In creating the bylaws for the Mission Center of HOPE, our team strove to create a document that would not only reflect the nonprofit best practices and ensure compliance with CA law, but that would also provide clear guidance on structure, policies, and procedures. We also worked closely with the organization to ensure that the newly formed board could follow the policies and procedures set forth in the bylaws.

This is Old Dominion University's 12th Annual State of the Region report. While it represents the work of many people connected in various ways to the university, the report does not constitute an official viewpoint of Old Dominion or it's president, John R. Broderick. The report maintains the goal of stimulating thought and discussion that ultimately will make Hampton Roads an even better place to live. We are proud of our region's many successes, but realize that it is possible to improve our performance. In order to do so, we must have accurate information about "where we are" and a …
