Employee turnover is a recurring problem in organizations, affecting performance and productivity while depleting organizational resources. High driver turnover rates raise a company’s operating costs and reduce driver productivity, service quality, and highway safety in the trucking industry. When trucking industry leaders understand such factors, they can develop and implement strategies to increase truck driver retention. Grounded in Herzberg’s two-factor theory and supported by Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, the purpose of this single case study was to explore strategies trucking company leaders use to increase truck driver retention.
