Big data analytics with its intricate insights is enabling service providers to better gauge customer needs. It is equally delivering information about the competitive landscape of services to customers. The frontline employees (FLEs) responsible for managing the diversified needs of these 'informed customers' face multiple challenges. There has been an increasing emphasis on big data analytics (BDA) in e-commerce in recent years. However, it remains poorly-explored as a concept, which obstructs its theoretical and practical development. This position paper explores BDA in e-commerce by drawing on a systematic review of the literature. The paper presents an interpretive framework that explores the definitional aspects, distinctive characteristics, types, business value and challenges of BDA in the e-commerce landscape. The paper also triggers broader discussions regarding future research challenges and opportunities in theory and practice. Are Big-Time Sports A Threat To Student Achievement?, Jason M. Lindo, Isaac D. Swensen, Glen R. Waddell

We consider the relationship between collegiate football success and non-athlete student performance. We find that the team's success significantly reduces male grades relative to female grades, and only in fall quarters, which coincides with the football season. Using survey data, we find that males are more likely than females to increase alcohol consumption, decrease studying, and increase partying in response to the success of the team. Yet, females also report that their behavior is affected by athletic success, suggesting that their performance is likely impaired but that this effect is masked by the practice of grade curving.

A unique form of organization that has not received much attention is the emergency services organization, which is tasked with responding to crises and disasters such as floods, fires, hurricanes, tsunamis, and other natural and man-made disasters. Effective responses in such situations are reliant on the availability of archived information as well as on the effective real-time integration and utilization of data coming from various channels including sensors, satellites, social media feeds, photos, video and cell phone GPS signals or 'Big Data' (IBM 2012; Rich 2012).
