When "First, Do No Harm" Fails: A Restorative Justice Approach To Workgroup Harms In Healthcare, Pedro L. Flores
When "First, Do No Harm" Fails: A Restorative Justice Approach To Workgroup Harms In Healthcare, Pedro L. Flores
Dissertations
In healthcare, workgroup mistreatment is a pervasive problem that begins during medical education (medical and nursing school) and becomes embedded in the “hidden curriculum of professionalism,” which dissuades and even punishes learners for talking about abuse they witness. Furthermore, the mistreatment of healthcare providers (HCPs) pervades all disciplines in the healthcare delivery chain due to a combination of cultural factors, systemic pressures, dysfunctional hierarchies, and leadership’s tolerance of intimidating and disruptive behaviors. Not surprisingly, 18% of U.S. HCPs have left the medical field since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and burnout, stress, anxiety, and increased workloads have been identified …
The Effects Of Balanced Scorecard Implementation On Organizational Performance: The Case Of The Healthcare Sector In The Uae, Alaa Salah Mushtaha
The Effects Of Balanced Scorecard Implementation On Organizational Performance: The Case Of The Healthcare Sector In The Uae, Alaa Salah Mushtaha
Dissertations
The aim of this study is to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) that positively affect balanced scorecard (BSC) implementation in the healthcare sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and to examine the impact of BSC implementation on organizational performance. The BSC theory has been applied in various industries, including manufacturing, the public sector, banking and insurance, hospitality, and healthcare. However, little knowledge has been revealed about its design and implementation in healthcare organizations. In addition, no published articles exist on BSC implementation in the context of the healthcare industry in the UAE, which shows a clear gap when …
The Impact Of Management Control Systems On Innovation Performance In Healthcare Organizations, Abdel-Haleem Iyad Al-Kade
The Impact Of Management Control Systems On Innovation Performance In Healthcare Organizations, Abdel-Haleem Iyad Al-Kade
Dissertations
The healthcare sector is one of the largest industries in the world, at close to 10 percent of global GDP. Healthcare providers are facing complex challenges arising from advances in medical treatment, an increase in patients’ demands, and decreasing resources to fund and support their activities. Healthcare organizations have resorted to innovation as a means to achieving a balance between cost containment and healthcare quality. While innovation is believed to be a critical element of business productivity and competitive survival, its implementation comes with risk. A systematic approach to managing and controlling the innovation process is therefore required in order …
Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni
Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni
Dissertations
This research focuses on the design of a procurement model for expensive medical supplies in a healthcare supply chain. A deterministic optimization model generates recommendations for optimal purchases of products in a given planning period. The model combines common concepts of supply chain procurement such as leveraging tiered pricing, ensuring supply base diversity with phenomena unique to healthcare supply chain such as consideration of physician preference for products. The deterministic optimization model minimizes total spend over a chosen planning period with consideration of four key decision parameters:
- Physician preference requirements (which are imposed as rules on product substitutability),
- Upper limits …
The Design Of An Instrument To Assess Clinical Laboratories Efficacy Post Implementation Of The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, Harry Mcdonald Jr.
The Design Of An Instrument To Assess Clinical Laboratories Efficacy Post Implementation Of The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act, Harry Mcdonald Jr.
Dissertations
The healthcare system in the United States has undergone substantial changes in support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). On March 23, 2010, the implementation of the new healthcare law brought universal healthcare access to all Americans, while attempting to increase quality and decrease medical costs. The new law promotes more of a quality-focused, outcome-based model rather than a pay-for-fee service model; thus, moving the paradigm from infrequent to preemptive healthcare. The PPACA postulates as the only way to achieve cost savings while increasing quality and access. Never before has there been such an extensive change to …
Inside The Va: How Workplace Training Evaluation Impacts Employee Performance, Timica Emerson
Inside The Va: How Workplace Training Evaluation Impacts Employee Performance, Timica Emerson
Dissertations
Employee performance and patient satisfaction are strong indicators of the current state of a healthcare organization. Workplace training programs are used to teach employees the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively perform on the job. Instructor-led, online, blended and independent learning events are produced to address learning needs and to improve staff performance. These training programs are necessary for preparing staff to meet the demands of daily work expectations. The learning approaches should encourage trainees to apply what they learn to their work assignments.
When programs are not evaluated consistently and methodically by the participating employees, their sustainability is uncertain. …
