This thesis provides an overview on the phenomenon of aid typing, with a special focus on Egyptian case. The study deals with bilateral aid flows of OECD countries, which present over 80% of OSA, as aid tying practices and motives, are more obvious in the case of bilateral aid.

The case study on Egypt provides a summary on aid trend and value. The main conclusions of the thesis are that although it is hard to qualify the exact cost or loss for tying of aid, it is obvious that tying has decreased aid effectiveness in many ways.
