The article deals with the business model and its components as well as the analysis of the relationships between these components using the sensitivity model. For this purpose we define the concept of a business model, paying special attention to its classification and components. This article is a continuation of the author’s discussion concerning the identification and classification of barriers to knowledge management, which appeared in 2012 (see References). The author divides these barriers into three interrelated dimensions: a) the prevalence of these barriers (exceeding the classical triad of: individual, organizational, and inter-organizational levels), b) the stages of knowledge management processes, and c) the types of barriers. The three-dimensional model presented is based on the field of morphology utilized in the theory of combinations. The article describes empirical verification of an interesting model – Intellectual Capital Statement (ICS). ICS is an example of a method which emphasizes the European contribution into the developing trend of intellectual capital (IC) measure and evaluation, with particular attention paid to the SME sector (a strong presence of Scandinavian countries and the USA is noticeable here). The purpose of this article is a fundamental re-evaluation of the method of VAICTM, which is very often used by researchers around the world, often in major studies assessing the value added produced mainly in the banking sector and in listed companies. It is questionable whether this method deserves such recognition, and whether it should be used for the general studies of the effectiveness of the use of resources both tangible and intangible in creating value for the company. This critical analysis was then presented in the article.
