Employer Perceptions Of Migrant Candidates' Suitability: The Influence Of Decision-Maker And Organisational Characteristics, Mario Fernando, Shamika Almeida, Shyamali Dharmage

This paper reports on how decision-makers' personal characteristics and organisational characteristics can influence the screening of immigrant professionals during the recruitment and selection process. The sample consisted of 220 decision-makers in the engineering industry working in New South Wales, Australia. The results show White/Anglo Australian decision-makers had more suitability concerns of ethnic migrant candidates during the recruitment and selection process than decision-makers of other ethnicities. However, this was moderated by organisational characteristics of size and clientele. Decision-makers in larger organisations and a diverse ethnic client base showed less suitability concerns of migrant candidates during the recruitment and selection process.

The Influence Of Presenteeism On Job Satisfaction And Employee Turnover Intentions: Evidence From Bangladeshi Employees, Amlan Haque

This study investigates the association of presenteeism with job satisfaction and employee turnover intentions. Presenteeism refers to attending work while ill and not being able to work up to full capacity. Hypotheses are tested using data from 200 full-time Bangladeshi employees with a web-based online survey. As predicted, significant negative associations were identified between presenteeism and job satisfaction as well as among job satisfaction and employee turnover intentions. A further analysis also revealed a significant positive relationship between presenteeism and employee turnover intentions. Coachable Moments: Identifying Factors That Influence Managers To Take Advantage Of Coachable Moments In Day-To-Day Management, Christina Turner, Grace Mccarthy

The purpose of this study was to identify the factor s that influence managers to take advantage of coachable moments in day-to-day management. Inte rviews with ten managers found that time, skills, and relationships were key factors considered by ma nagers, but that these were considered within the context of potential "risk" to the manager. Th is paper elaborates on these findings and makes recommendations for further research into how manage rs consciously assess the risks associated with coaching, in order to decide whether to take a dvantage of an informal coaching opportunity.
