Exploring The Effectiveness Of Environmentally Sustainable Practices In Municipal Government: A Case Study Of The City Of Knoxville’S Department Of Parks And Recreation, Anthony Michael Brown
Exploring The Effectiveness Of Environmentally Sustainable Practices In Municipal Government: A Case Study Of The City Of Knoxville’S Department Of Parks And Recreation, Anthony Michael Brown
Masters Theses
Sustainability practices produce programs and services that meet current needs while preserving the environment and natural resources for the future. City parks and recreation departments are facing budget shortfalls and increasing expectations from customers. Governments are now embracing sustainability practices to create financial savings while also fostering relations with customers.
The purpose of this single case study was twofold: (1) to examine the effectiveness of one city department’s strategies in outsourcing its environmental sustainability program through a performance contract with Ameresco; and (2) to examine the perceptions of key department employees about the effectiveness of the sustainability initiative. A …
A Management Plan For The Imported Fire Ant (Ifa) Migration Into Gateway Communities In East Tennessee, Elizabeth Ann Long
A Management Plan For The Imported Fire Ant (Ifa) Migration Into Gateway Communities In East Tennessee, Elizabeth Ann Long
Masters Theses
This thesis outlines a management plan for Gateway communities to use as a preparedness guide dealing with the establishment of the hybrid species of the Imported Fire Ant (IFA). The red species of IFA, Solenopsis invicta Buren, and the black species of IFA, Solenopsis richteri Forel, are located in southern Tennessee, but it appears that it is the hybrid species of their crossbreeding that is migrating into east Tennessee. The two species of IFA and their hybrid are moving north, both by natural migration and by being brought into the east Tennessee area on landscape plant materials and by the …
Fiber Splitting Of Bicomponet Melt Blown Microfiber Nonwovens By Chemical And Water Treatment, Hua Song
Fiber Splitting Of Bicomponet Melt Blown Microfiber Nonwovens By Chemical And Water Treatment, Hua Song
Masters Theses
The melt blowning process is unique because it is used almost exclusively to produce microfibers rather than fibers the size of normal textile fibers. With bicomponent meltblown bicomponent fabrics, PLA/PP and PLA/PTT, an alkaline treatment was applied to the fabrics, causing the dissolvable part (PLA) removed from the bicomponent fibers.
Alternatively, water treatment is preferred compared to alkaline treatment. Water dispersive Eastman AQ polymers were introduced to melt blown processing for the first time. After the water dispersive AQ polymer was determined to be able to be processed into a nonwoven fabric using the melt blowing processing line, the feasibility …
A Study Of Nonwoven Composites, Shaker Gaddam
A Study Of Nonwoven Composites, Shaker Gaddam
Masters Theses
Preliminary work on nonwoven composites at The University of Tennessee showed that spunbond/meltblown (SM) and spunbond/meltblown/spunbond (SMS) nonwoven composites containing side-by-side (S/S) bicomponent PP/PE fiber meltblown webs had lower flexural rigidity than 100%PP SB webs and that the SM composites had discernibly softer hand than did the composites made from 100% PP in the meltblown component.
This study further optimizes the production and processing parameters of the SM and SMS laminates containing MB webs with different ratios of the bicomponent polymer pairs PP and PE. The resultant laminates were tested for barrier performance, tensile strength, hydrostatic head (HH), air permeability …
The 235 Experience In Knox County, Tennessee: A Study Of The Role Of The Private Sector In The Operation Of The 235 Home Ownership Program From 1969-1973., James Dewey Mims
The 235 Experience In Knox County, Tennessee: A Study Of The Role Of The Private Sector In The Operation Of The 235 Home Ownership Program From 1969-1973., James Dewey Mims
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of the private housing and home finance industry in the operation of the Section 235 home ownership program in Knox County, Tennessee.
The information and data utilized in this study was derived from a number of sources but primarily from interviews with selected builders, brokers, and mortgagees involved in the development and marketing of seven suburban “235” Subdivisions in Knox County. An assessment was made of the various roles of the private sector participants, their successes and failures in the operation of the Section 235 program, and the overall value …
Implementation Programs For State Solid Waste Management Plans: Kentucky And Maryland As Prototypes, Dennis A. Joyce
Implementation Programs For State Solid Waste Management Plans: Kentucky And Maryland As Prototypes, Dennis A. Joyce
Masters Theses
Solid wastes management responsibility has traditionally been delegated by the states to their political subdivisions. Through the state planning grant provisions of the Federal Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965, many states are responding to the solid wastes problem that is taxing the capabilities of their local governments. In confronting the solid wastes problem within their borders, many states are re-evaluating their traditional roles.
This thesis is concerned with the response of Kentucky and Maryland to the Solid Waste Disposal Act of 1965. It is the purpose of this thesis to help to better understand the state solid wastes planning …
