Workplace Factors As Determinants Of Job Commitment Among Senior Non-Teaching Staff Of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State, Olukunle Saheed Oludeyi

Olukunle Saheed, OLUDEYI

Studies have focused on workplace environment in relations to health and safety of workers in health industries. There is however scanty empirical research on workplace environmental factors and employee job commitment in universities. While others showed the connection between work environment and job attitude across organisations, studies on workplace environment which are conducted in the university setting seem to focus on the influence of university environment on job performance of teaching staff and not on job commitment among senior non-teaching staff. Others focus their study on job commitment among lecturers. In a bid to fill this gap, this research work …

Governance differs in approaches, methods and policy focuses because they are guided by different administrative and philosophical orientations. The resultant shifts in government policies and programs have consequences on all aspects of the country’s socio-economic, political and technological development. Industrial relations constitute one of the most delicate and complex problems of the modern society which merits national concern for proper examination and balancing. Tracing government intervention in Nigerian industrial relations, this paper weighs the contributions of military dictators and their civilian counterparts to the growth of Nigerian industrial relations. With an historical account of how government’s principle of voluntarism metamorphosed …

Some of us who drank from the pot of wisdom and knowledge and who benefited from the technical skills and professional understanding advanced by the premier university of education, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, consider the upkeep and continuous development of this vast-growing university as a serious subject of concern. Among other issues considered as germane to the university in her quest for excellence in teaching, research and community service, the recent deletion of some courses in the university, is one of such areas of worries to some of us who hold the institution in …

This paper takes a cursory look into the various challenges influencing international students and other study-tourists in their choice of study destination with particular emphasis on the ‘pull and push factors’ in Nigeria educational systems. With secondary information and discourse analysis of existing literatures, the study revealed that there are a growing number of outbound Nigerians searching abroad for educational empowerment compared with the fewer number of inbound students-tourists. While pull factors are non-existent, there are numerous push factors in Nigerian educational system which include underfunding, unprecedented industrial unrest (with ASUU being a protagonist), cultism and cult-related violence, poor educational …

The Dialectics Of Staff Unionism And University Management; Critical Discourse For Effective Educational Service Delivery, Olukunle Saheed Oludeyi, Adebayo Olatunde Akinsanya

Olukunle Saheed, OLUDEYI

This paper was poised by the lingering lamentations about the acute fall in standard of education and rapid knowledge declination among Nigerians today. The problem has become so intense that Nigerian ivory towers are now accused of producing ill-prepared and unemployable graduates who seriously lack the skills and competencies needed to positively assist the nation in its quest for growth and development. Unfortunately apart from poor university management, suspicious and insincere, if not selfish relationship between leadership of staff unions and leadership of university management is another factor impeding adequate and effective educational service delivery in Nigeria today. With pluralist …
