Customers’ Goal-Related Behavior In Loyalty Programs, Junzhou Zhang
Customers’ Goal-Related Behavior In Loyalty Programs, Junzhou Zhang
Junzhou Zhang
Goal plays a vital role in the purposive behavior of consumers, and goal pursuit represents an important psychological mechanism under loyalty programs. The purpose of my dissertation is to understand loyalty program members’ goal pursuit behavior and uncover the underlying psychological mechanisms.
The first essay examined how success or failure to achieve a tier goal affects consumers’ subsequent goal pursuit behavior. Specifically, utilizing two lab experiments and 5,719 customers’ flight activities data from a major airline’s multi-tiered frequent flyer program, this essay studied the effect of goal completion magnitude on individuals’ effort toward achieving subsequent goals, and how goal type …

A Mindful Product Acceptance Model, Anh Ta, Victor Prybutok
A Mindful Product Acceptance Model, Anh Ta, Victor Prybutok
Anh Ta
We posit, develop and test a new mindful product acceptance model that includes the independent variable constructs of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, mindful judgement constructs (taste and environmental concerns), trust and perceived safety. Concerns about the environment are addressed in the bottled water context because of its ubiquitous use and increasing sales. This increasing bottled water use raises the question about why people drink bottled water versus tap water and provides a venue for testing how mindfulness influences the decision process. This study contributes to the literature by providing a new application of technology acceptance model (TAM) that …

Evaluation Of Animal-Based Indicators To Be Used In A Welfare Assessment Protocol For Sheep, Susan E. Richmond, Françoise Wemelsfelder, Ina Beltran De Heredia, Roberto Ruiz, Elisabetta Canali, Cathy M. Dwyer
Françoise Wemelsfelder, PhD
Sheep are managed under a variety of different environments (continually outdoors, partially outdoors with seasonal or diurnal variation, continuously indoors) and for different purposes, which makes assessing welfare challenging. This diversity means that resource-based indicators are not particularly useful and, thus, a welfare assessment scheme for sheep, focusing on animal-based indicators, was developed. We focus specifically on ewes, as the most numerous group of sheep present on farm, although many of the indicators may also have relevance to adult male sheep. Using the Welfare Quality® framework of four Principles and 12 Criteria, we considered the validity, reliability, and feasibility of …

Risk Assessment Of Catch And Release, Rolf Erik Olsen, Tor Fredrik Næsje, Trygve Poppe, Lynne Sneddon, John Webb
Risk Assessment Of Catch And Release, Rolf Erik Olsen, Tor Fredrik Næsje, Trygve Poppe, Lynne Sneddon, John Webb
Lynne Sneddon, PhD
The report was produced during most of 2009, and gives a state of art overview of current knowledge on the effects of catch and release practices on these fish species’ welfare, using accessible and peer reviewed published literature as basis for the assessment. Anecdotic and non-published reports have been used to a limited extent as they are regarded as untested or containing unverified statements. The Panel on Animal Health and Welfare discussed the full report in a meeting on the 9th of December, and gave its support to the conclusions drawn by the ad hoc-group. The report has concentrated on …
Factors Influencing Buying Behaviour Of Organic Food : An Empirical Study Of Young Consumers In India, Gurmeet Kaur Matharu
Factors Influencing Buying Behaviour Of Organic Food : An Empirical Study Of Young Consumers In India, Gurmeet Kaur Matharu
Gurmeet Matharu
The factors that drive organic food (OF) buying intentions and consumption behaviours of young Indians is poorly understood. The research investigated these factors along with the moderating effect of cultural values. Data were obtained from 401 students from universities in India through online surveys. Attitude towards OF purchases, subjective norm, and perceived quality were found to significantly influence OF purchase intention; environmental concern, perceived consumer effectiveness and price consciousness did not. Young consumers, mostly urban, from high-income families, general social class with a culture of high uncertainty avoidance, long-term orientation and indulgence have the most favourable mindset towards OF.
Pain In Farm Animals, L. U. Sneddon, Michael J. Gentle
Pain In Farm Animals, L. U. Sneddon, Michael J. Gentle
Lynne Sneddon, PhD
This review will address how we can measure pain in farm animals and discuss the major causes of acute pain and also chronically painful conditions, and finally make suggestions for future improvements. Pain is a relatively difficult concept to define since it comprises both a physiological sensory and a psychological or emotional component. Pain is the subjective interpretation of nerve impulses induced by a stimulus that is actually or potentially damaging to tissues. The sensation of pain is a response to a noxious stimulus and should elicit protective motor (e.g. withdrawal reflex, escape) and vegetative responses (e.g. cardiovascular responses, inflammation). …

Top Management Team Diversity, Equality, And Innovation: A Multilevel Investigation Of The Health Care Industry, A. Erin Bass

The role of women on top management teams (TMTs) is an increasingly important topic for both academics and practitioners. Despite increased attention to gender diversity on TMTs, there remains limited understanding of how gender diversity influences important outcomes of the firm, such as innovation. To this end, I investigate the relationships between two dimensions of TMT diversity—TMT gender diversity and TMT compensation equality—and firm innovation, and consider how TMT size influences these relationships. Using a unique, multilevel, longitudinal sample of publicly traded firms in the U.S. health care industry, I find TMT size to be a key driver in the …

This dissertation is a study of the relationship between Information Technology (IT) strategic alignment and IT governance structure within the organization. This dissertation replicates Asante (2010) among a different population where the prior results continue to hold, the non-experimental approach explored two research questions but include two moderating variables: industry type and organization size. The model used in this study was Luftman (2003) Strategic Alignment Model (SAM) which was validated through previous research. This research used web-based surveys to collect the data from multiple organizations which include IT executives and managers, and addresses the missing link between IT governance and …
