From Technical Resolution To Agile Evolution: A Blended Role At Humane Interface Design Enterprise (Hide), Ketansingh Anil Patil Jan 2024

From Technical Resolution To Agile Evolution: A Blended Role At Humane Interface Design Enterprise (Hide), Ketansingh Anil Patil

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

This report provides a comprehensive overview of my journey through two distinct roles at the Humane Interface Design Enterprise (HIDE) - as a Technical Consultant in Spring 2023 and an Agile Process Analyst in Fall 2023. My tenure as a Technical Consultant was marked by the application of academic knowledge and technical skills to tackle real-world challenges at HIDE, leveraging experiences from my capstone projects and my roles in the industry as an IT Analyst Intern at Milwaukee Tool and a Data Engineer at UST. This role at HIDE enhanced my problem-solving skills and contributed to the progress of the …

Improving Energy Stewardship At Michigan Technological University’S Athletic Complexes, Cynthia L. Pindral Jan 2022

Improving Energy Stewardship At Michigan Technological University’S Athletic Complexes, Cynthia L. Pindral

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Athletics departments are showcases for universities, serving as a public face and recruitment outlet that communicates university identity to the world. This applied research project examines the state of electrical energy infrastructure at Michigan Technological University with special attention to the Athletic Department and reports on the process for energy decisions in both settings. I take a qualitative research approach analyzing University documents and conducting interviews with informants in Athletics Administration, Facilities, and MTU’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience. Four major barriers to efficiency emerged: (1) lack of University-wide climate action goals, (2) staffing issues due to a large number …

Gold Mining And Economic Performance In Africa And The Case Of Ghana, Josephine Amponsem Jan 2019

Gold Mining And Economic Performance In Africa And The Case Of Ghana, Josephine Amponsem

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Based on the statistical analysis of 920 observations covering forty-six countries during the 1997 to 2016 period, this study investigates the impact of goldmining on the economic performance of African nations while paying particular attention to the case of Ghana. It employs the GDP’s output approach to evaluate the role that gold production may have played on GDP growth at the aggregate and per capita levels, as well as potential spillover effects across the services, industry and agriculture sectors. The empirical results for the African economies as a whole as well as for the country of Ghana in particular, suggest …

Agile–Stage Gate Management (Asgm): Npd Implementation Practices From Global Firms Developing Complex, Physical Products, John J. Salvato Jan 2018

Agile–Stage Gate Management (Asgm): Npd Implementation Practices From Global Firms Developing Complex, Physical Products, John J. Salvato

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Stage Gate Management (SGM) has been used successfully by global organizations to direct the New Product Development process (NPD) for years, recently a new variant of this venerable approach has emerged. Researchers and firms have begun to intersperse elements of Agile, as popularized for the development of software, to create an Agile – Stage Gate Management (ASGM) hybrid NPD framework. Agile practitioners believe in process waste reduction, an intense focus on customers, and the creation of nimble entrepreneurial project teams, which, for software products, has positively impacted development time to market, resource utilization, and market success, more generally, improved business …

The Visual And Performing Arts In The Technical Communication Classroom: Reinforcing The University's Internal Community Literacy Via Service-Learning, Richard L. Ward Jan 2017

The Visual And Performing Arts In The Technical Communication Classroom: Reinforcing The University's Internal Community Literacy Via Service-Learning, Richard L. Ward

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

This report details a class taught that was an exploration into the value of STEAM or science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics within the confines of Technical Communication as it applies to the business and industry of theatre. It was an experiment in service learning as it could be tied into the Arts via differing technai, as described by John Wild in “Plato’s Theory of Texnh a Phenomenological Interpretation,” demonstrating a necessity for Arts as they pertain to STEM-centric universities. This report discusses a section of Technical and Professional Communication taught at Michigan technological University that consisted of twenty-five students …

A Sustainability-Based Project Selection Algorithm: Socio-Technical-Economic Project Selection (Steps) Algorithm, Bharathi Bhattu Jan 2016

A Sustainability-Based Project Selection Algorithm: Socio-Technical-Economic Project Selection (Steps) Algorithm, Bharathi Bhattu

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Multi-dimensional aspects play a vital role in the task of project-decision making. Environmental effects are to be considered in addition to other technical and non-technical aspects in order to avoid undue environmental damage. This current work introduces a new decision-making algorithm (Socio-Technical-Economic Project Selection or STEPS) that is demonstrated with the use of RCA (recycled concrete aggregate) as riprap for slope stabilization and erosion control which leaches chemical arsenic when in contact with water. Arsenic has long been recognized for its lethal properties. The main intention of introducing this new algorithm is to use sustainability concepts of social, technical, and …

Personas: A Strategy For More Inclusive And Usable Reproductive Health Tracking Technologies, Anna R. Paul Jan 2016

Personas: A Strategy For More Inclusive And Usable Reproductive Health Tracking Technologies, Anna R. Paul

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

In this report, I argue for the inclusion of personas in the development process of technologies that are designed to allow users to collect and track their health information. Personas provide a profile of a user and their needs, goals, and contexts. This tool can help designers to better understand their users, in order to create better, more usable end products. I examine one particular self-tracking technology, smartphone applications that allow users to record information about their menstrual cycles. Many of the most popular period tracking applications available today only meet the needs of a narrow user group, resulting in …

Dealing With Economic Sustainability Challenges Evolving From Declining Oil Production In Saudi Arabia, Mazen Aboudah Jan 2015

Dealing With Economic Sustainability Challenges Evolving From Declining Oil Production In Saudi Arabia, Mazen Aboudah

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

The objective of this research is to examine how Saudi Arabia can effectively deal with economic sustainability challenges arising from declining oil production. The methodology for the paper involved examining the background of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry in regard to present production patterns, the role of the country’s oil industry in the economy and the significance of governmental efforts in attempting to remove Saudi Arabia’s excessive dependence on the oil sector. In recognizing that Saudi Arabia’s current circumstances clearly require the government to implement measures that allow the economy to become less dependent on oil, it was felt necessary to …
