Privacy And The Information Age: A Longitudinal View, Charles E. Downing
Privacy And The Information Age: A Longitudinal View, Charles E. Downing
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
As information systems and data storage capacity become increasingly sophisticated, an important ethical question for organizations is “What can/will/should be done with the personal information that has been and can be collected?” Individuals’ privacy is certainly important, but so is less costly and more targeted business processes. As this conflict intensifies, consumers, managers and policy makers are left wondering: What privacy principles are important to guide organizations in self-regulation? For example, do consumers view the five rights originally stated in the European Data Protection Directive as important? Comprehensive? Is there a product discount point where consumers would forsake these principles? …
Improving Credit Card Operations With Data Mining Techniques, Malini Krishnamurthi
Improving Credit Card Operations With Data Mining Techniques, Malini Krishnamurthi
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Consumer credit is ubiquitous and lending poses credit risk – the risk of economic loss due to the failure of a borrower to repay according to the terms of his or her contract with the lender. And so, managing credit risk entails estimating the potential ability of borrowers to repay their debts. Researchers have sought to identify factors that contribute to consumer risk, by using quantitative models. However, the presence of data mining techniques to identify credit risk cannot be ignored. There is a paucity of research to demonstrate the use of data mining techniques in this context, and such …

Application Of Uml For Modeling Urban Traffic System Using Producer Consumer Theory To Generate Process Algebra Model, Manuj Darbari, Sanjay Medhavi, Abhay Kumar Srivastava
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
UML is widely used as an industry standard for modeling any system. In this paper will be dealing with simple UML diagrams and show that low it can be transformed into process algebra models specially designated to model urban traffic systems. The model capture functionality at the level of mesoscopic as well as microscopic level and it is merged with process algebra’s producer consumer theory. The model is also formalized using Process algebra equations. This paper focuses on complex situational activity diagrams enhancing the expressivity by refining at the abstraction levels. A Framework And Guide For Understanding The Creation Of Consumer Trust, Joseph A. Cazier
A Framework And Guide For Understanding The Creation Of Consumer Trust, Joseph A. Cazier
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
This paper develops a framework and model for building trust by combining research on the creation of trust with the dimensions of trust: ability, benevolence and integrity. By combining these dimensions in a matrix with the types of trust production based on characteristics, process and institutions, the paper develops a robust 3 x 3 matrix with which to categorize and understand trust production. The framework is developed and analyzed in the light of literature on consumer trust. This framework can help researchers, practitioners and consumers understand trust creation and assist businesses in developing a comprehensive strategy for managing trust.
Sellers In Online Auction Markets: Introducing A Feedback-Based Classification, Radha Appan, Zhangxi Lin
Sellers In Online Auction Markets: Introducing A Feedback-Based Classification, Radha Appan, Zhangxi Lin
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Trading in the online consumer-to-consumer (C2C) auction market necessitates buyers and sellers to engage in transactions with anonymous counterparts. The sequence of paying first and then taking delivery introduces a great amount of risk for potential buyers. In order to assist buyers in dealing with this risk, online auction markets (OAMs) are employing reputation-scoring systems and traders can be classified in terms of their online reputation scores. A review of the literature suggests a conspicuous absence of the study on any standard classification of sellers in OAMs. Lack of such a classification hinders systematic research and theory development. Therefore, a …

Fee -Based Online Services : Exploring Consumers’ Willingness To Pay, L. Richard Ye, Yue Zhang, Dat-Dao Nguyen, James Chiu
Journal of International Technology and Information Management
Many online service businesses are beginning to charge fees for services that they used to provide for free. It is unclear whether consumers are ready to embrace this practice. This study explores consumer attitudes toward fee-based online services. The results of the study indicate that consumers’ willingness to pay for online services is likely to be influenced by their perceived value of convenience these services provide, and by the extent to which they utilize these services. While consumers appear more willing to pay for services that are qualitatively better than free services, there is also indication that the belief remains …
