Stories And Selling: The Impact Of Narrative Storytelling In Video Commercials, Gabriela Martin
Stories And Selling: The Impact Of Narrative Storytelling In Video Commercials, Gabriela Martin
Honors Projects in Communication
In a world where business is so closely tied together with the digital world, it can become easy to miss out on the human component of the marketing field. However, it is the narrative storytelling interwoven into advertisements that make them so compelling to consumers. Customers do not just want to be told about the features of a product, but rather they want to understand how having that product will make them feel. This storytelling can be communicated across several different forms of media, but it is especially apparent in the formatting of video commercials. While basic informational videos can …
There's No Business Like Show Business: Analyzing The Factors Of Broadway Shows That Have The Most Influence Over The Theatre Industry's Recovery From The Covid-19 Shutdown, Megan Swenson
Honors Projects in Accounting
The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the Broadway theatre industry, with all performing arts venues suspending performances for at least 18 months. The economic recession associated with the COVID-19 pandemic left actors, directors, and theater workers unemployed for months on end, causing undue economic harm to individual finances and the industry. Since the reopening of Broadway plays and musicals in the fall of 2021, very few shows have been able to reach pre-pandemic levels of income and attendance. This project aims to use a regression analysis of weekly gross income for Broadway shows to predict what factors will …

The purpose of this Honors Thesis is to develop an understanding of how Amazon Inc. operates and competes in its own e-commerce marketplace. The paper seeks to answer the research question: Is the relationship between Amazon seller type and list price consistent with regulator antitrust concerns? The goal is to analyze Amazon listings in 27 product categories and how their price/sales effects vary by seller type: Amazon, Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), and Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM). Special attention will be given to identifying price trends by category, the impact of the "Buy Box", and competing offers on the same listings. …

Cost-Aware Generalized Α-Investing For Multiple Hypothesis Testing, Thomas Cook, Harsh Vardhan Dubey, Ji Ah Lee, Guangyu Zhu, Tingting Zhao, Patrick Flaherty
Information Systems and Analytics Department Faculty Journal Articles
We consider the problem of sequential multiple hypothesis testing with nontrivial data collection cost. This problem appears, for example, when conducting biological experiments to identify differentially expressed genes in a disease process. This work builds on the generalized α-investing framework that enables control of the false discovery rate in a sequential testing setting. We make a theoretical analysis of the long term asymptotic behavior of α-wealth which motivates a consideration of sample size in the α-investing decision rule. Using the game theoretic principle of indifference, we construct a decision rule that optimizes the expected return (ERO) of α-wealth and provides …

The purpose of this study is to systematically examine and classify the multitude of personality traits that have emerged in the literature beyond the Big Five (Five Factor Model) since the turn of the 21st century. The authors argue that this represents a new phase of personality research that is characterized both by construct proliferation and a movement away from the Big Five and demonstrates how personality as a construct has substantially evolved in the 21st century.

This study explores the implications of fitness apparel marketing on consumer self-esteem, attitude towards brands and ads, and purchase intention. Furthermore, this study explores the relationship between a diverse, inclusive (body size and ethnicity) model and consumer attitudes. Female participants were recruited to share their feelings towards their own personal body satisfaction, how they perceive advertisements, how they feel about the brand based on the advertisement that they view, and their intentions to buy the product. The study found that while the original hypotheses were not statistically significant, that there was a positive correlation of customers being more likely to …

There is an abundance of research that analyzes country of origin (COO) and its effect on consumer behavior; however, many of these studies are in relation to products unrelated to fashion. In addition, there are a plethora of studies that discuss price transparency and product transparency. Though, most of this research is also unrelated to the fashion industry. There is also a significant lack of COO studies in relation with price and product transparency. This current study aims to focus on developing new methods of marketing in congruence with COO and fashion products. Utilizing a between-subjects experimental design, 2 (country …

Marketing from student loan servicing companies tend to omit important information, thus deceiving borrowers. These companies may be taking advantage of students' position as vulnerable consumers with limited information to maximize their own profits. This study explores the relationship between deceptive advertising from student loan servicers and its effects on consumer perceived deception, student trust in the loan servicer, and student satisfaction in their borrowing decisions. Consumer perceived deception (CPD) is the extent to which a consumer believes the ad they were exposed to tends to mislead them. To test the hypotheses, an experiment was conducted, and a questionnaire was …

Honors Projects in Management
The goal of this thesis is to analyze the relationship between a company’s sustainable practices and the revenue earned in an annual reporting period. The research methodology is based on a correlation model and data was gathered from the MSCI ESG Ratings & Climate Search Tool and Calcbench to perform the analyses. A model was built to allow data input for the correlation to be ran. The results showed that many companies had highly significant relationships between their MSCI Scores and revenue for the same reporting periods. There were some companies that had negative correlations because as the score increased, …

Employee Health and Wellness Programs are increasingly more prevalent in different work environments and industries. Studies have shown that these programs can potentially increase employee productivity and reduce absenteeism, in addition to emphasizing a priority on mental and physical wellness. Healthcare workers already have a stressful job, but since the breakout of COVID-19, they have been overwhelmed with this pandemic to an even higher degree. It is important that healthcare workers take care of their own health and wellness and that it is prioritized at their place of work. Through surveying various healthcare workers, this study investigates if healthcare professionals …
