The Application Of The Psychophysical Law To The United States Army Officer Efficiency Reporting System, James M. Sturgeon
The Application Of The Psychophysical Law To The United States Army Officer Efficiency Reporting System, James M. Sturgeon
Masters Theses
Statement of the Problem: In rendering the United States Army Officer Efficiency Report, the rater is required to describe in narrative form the performance of the ratee. Too, the rater must express quantitatively his overall evaluation of the performance by placing the ratee in an adjectival, quantitative category. Army regulations declare it is imperative that the rater be consistent in these two portions of the report and that the categorical rating be justified by the narrative description. Clearly some measure of "consistency" or "justification" is needed, yet none is prescribed or even suggested.
Apart from the above two evaluations, the …

An Analysis Of Program Evaluation And Review Technique (Pert), Thomas V. Malloy Jr.
Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to critically review and evaluate the merits of a management technique currently receiving wide acclaim throughout the defense contracting industry. This technique has been referred to as an "operations research or scientific approach to modern management" [Fazer, 9]. The name given this new technique is PERT. PERT stands for Program Evaluation and Review Technique. In non-defense industries, a very similar method known as the Critical Path Method is in wide use. There is very little difference between these two techniques except that PERT is more detailed and attempts to provide the user with a …

This study was done to learn what resources hospital nursing personnel use most as a guide in performing unfamiliar procedures, and by internal analysis, to identify some of the factors influencing the choice of resources used by different levels of nursing personnel. Following …

Anderson School of Management Theses & Dissertations

A Business History Of The Copper Industry Of Utah, 1860-1910, Gary Barker Hansen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Historically, those communities or nations which are generously endowed with natural resources, and have the necessary skills to practice the liberal and useful art have become the most advanced civilizations. Furthermore, "of all the resources which are basic to civilization, the possession and utilization of minerals must be placed first."
It would be difficult to estimate the over-all importance of the nonferrous metals industry (gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc) in helping America to become a great civilization. However. if it were possible, it would be considerable indeed. As Utah has been an important nonferrous mineral producing state for over 100 …
Economics Of Defense Procurement And Small Business, Charles Sayre Karis
Economics Of Defense Procurement And Small Business, Charles Sayre Karis
Master's Theses
Since the end of World War II and particularly since the Korean incident, military procurement has achieved a peacetime volume never before contemplated in our history. This high level of activity and the likelihood that it will continue for a long time gives defense spending a new importance in the national economy. It is therefore desirable that small business should seek participation in this new and large opportunity since it always has been in competition to serve other kinds of economic demands.
This thesis will examine the magnitude and nature of militacy procurement and the special commercial considerations involved. The …

Analysis And Review Of The Job Enlargement Concept, William Henry Dyke
Masters Theses
Introduction:
Adam Smith stated that the division of labor is a forerunner of and a necessity to a successful economical system.2 Extended and refined, the division of labor results in the type of job specialization that Drucker refers to above - "... split up the operation into its constituent motions ..." - but job specialization goes one step farther and assigns only a few of these motions to any one operator. The division of labor of Smith's day resulted in some men being blacksmiths, some being carpenters, some being millers, etc.; but the job specialization as pioneered by Taylor, …
Internal Business Communications: A Three Dimensional Problem, Stuart Ray Long
Internal Business Communications: A Three Dimensional Problem, Stuart Ray Long
Master's Theses
Communications is a dynamic field -- a company cannot afford to allow its communications program to become static. As an accomplished musician must practice to maintain his skill, so must a company sharpen and refine its communications. Conditions change and the communications program must change to meet the new needs. This will require continuing application of ingenuity and imagination in devising more effective ways of assembling, summarizing and disseminating information to coordinate the functions and activities of the organization.
