Academic Leadership Academy
The focus of this project is to pull together individuals from across campus who are responsible for visual communication and form a Designers on Campus group. During 2014 and 2015, this group has met to discuss a variety of design topics, share ideas and show completed work. The group has provided valuable input into revising WMU’s Visual Identity Program guidelines. This ongoing project will result in a new release of the guidelines in early January, 2016.

The development of the learning commons and embedded librarianship are two of the most recent responses to the downward trend in traditional reference statistics for academic libraries. Reference librarians are rethinking how to demonstrate the added value of their services and reach users at their point of need both online and face‐to‐face. Trends in the building of learning commons and service centers have led to the integration of support services such as tutoring, writing assistance, computer access, collaborative study zones, and research help in order to provide a one‐stop shop for students. Residential Property Values And Historic Districts: A Kalamazoo Case Study, Curtis John Aardema
Residential Property Values And Historic Districts: A Kalamazoo Case Study, Curtis John Aardema
Research and Creative Activities Poster Day
Often cited by proponents as a productive tool for preserving the cultural and physical elements of the American built environment, historic districts are alternatively branded as burdensome and regressive to future development by critics. In order to provide a quantitative assessment of the economic impact of historic districts, this project compares property values from 1990, 2000 and 2010 in both a historically designated and a non- designated neighborhood in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Through tedious sampling techniques and statistical analysis, the results of the project indicated a link between historic districts and higher property values.

Chapter from Desilva, A. and M. Aparicio (Eds.), International Handbook of Professional Identities. Rosemead, CA: Scientific & Academic Publishing.
Our chapter examines identity work within and beyond the professions. To lend structure to this emerging perspective, we being by forwarding a general theoretical model of identity work. We then reexamine and extend this model by examining identity work amongst professionals. To do so, we first depend connections with literature on the professions to highlight salient and unique dynamics facing this occupational group. We then assess these dynamics in light of our model. Specifically, we show how an examination of …
