Managing Finances In College [Brochure And Video], Laura Heidel, Caleb M. Parrigan Oct 2011

Managing Finances In College [Brochure And Video], Laura Heidel, Caleb M. Parrigan

Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)

Managing finances is a very important instrument that should be demonstrated on a daily basis by all students, and also any individual that is working full-time and has a set of expenses that must be paid. Creating a budget helps college students resist physical, mental, and emotional stress. Knowing how to budget your expenses will teach students how to be responsible, how you view money, and the true value of a dollar. Credit cards are also a potential stressor for students. Nellie Mae, a student loan provider, finds that 83% of undergraduates have at least one credit card and the …

Student Debt [Brochure And Video], John Roberts, Timothy Popma

Counseling Concepts and Applications for Student Affairs Professionals (CNS 577)

Research has proven that over the course of a student’s higher education career, individuals will become debt tolerant (Zhang and Kemp, 2009, p. 28). Being that students are becoming debt tolerant, more and more debt is taken from government aid or private loans to fund students through college. Currently, the national student debt amount is over $950 billion. Mark Kantrowitz, a publisher of FinAid.org, states, “national student debt increases $2853.88 every second.” Unfortunately, student debt has not only accrued from education alone. Students are using student loan refunds and credit cards to finance the high standard of living in America. …

The Federal Imd Exemption And Cost-Shifting, Todd Rainey May 2011

The Federal Imd Exemption And Cost-Shifting, Todd Rainey

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the Federal IMD exclusion has resulted in states opting to shift costs to the government by enacting inefficient Medicaid programs in order to gain federal reimbursement. The claim of “cost-shifting” relies on the assumption that state programs are inefficient – that is, that their Medicaid programs are less effective at reducing incarceration rates (as a metric for failure to properly treat) than their psychiatric hospitals. Literature in the Public Health, Psychiatric, and Criminal Justice fields was surveyed in order to determine relevant factors to be included in the model. Model variables include factors which contribute to …

Both quantitative and qualitative methods in the form of an online survey and a focus group were used to gather data from nonprofit practitioners around Bowling Green, Kentucky. One-To-One Laptop Project: Perceptions Of Teachers, Parents, And Students, Matthew D. Constant

Dissertations

One-to-one laptop programs are becoming more prevalent across the world in K-12 institutions. School districts are searching for more engaging tools that seek to have impact on school success, such as grade achievement, college/career preparation, and/or 21st-century skill preparation and attainment. Additionally, boards of education continuously want some positive indication of the return on their substantial financial investment.

This study utilized surveys of three important stakeholder groups (parents, students, and teachers) related to a one-to-one laptop project in a moderately-sized rural Midwestern school district. Perceptions about how often laptops were used in the classroom setting and across content areas (Language …

Deterministic And Stochastic Bellman's Optimality Principles On Isolated Time Domains And Their Applications In Finance, Nezihe Turhan

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The concept of dynamic programming was originally used in late 1949, mostly during the 1950s, by Richard Bellman to describe decision making problems. By 1952, he refined this to the modern meaning, referring specifically to nesting smaller decision problems inside larger decisions. Also, the Bellman equation, one of the basic concepts in dynamic programming, is named after him. Dynamic programming has become an important argument which was used in various fields; such as, economics, finance, bioinformatics, aerospace, information theory, etc. Since Richard Bellman's invention of dynamic programming, economists and mathematicians have formulated and solved a huge variety of sequential decision …

Economic Impacts Of Drought On Kentucky Corn, Hay, And Soybeans, Kortney E. Craft May 2011

Economic Impacts Of Drought On Kentucky Corn, Hay, And Soybeans, Kortney E. Craft

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Understanding climatic impacts is important if we are to comprehend the relationship between climate and society. Weather phenomena can have environmental, economical, and social impacts. Drought is the natural hazard that affects people the most. It is also the most complex and least understood. There is no one universally accepted definition for drought which makes its examination difficult. Droughts’ duration is also difficult to determine because it has no clearly defined onset and end. Also, drought varies both geographically and temporally making uniform drought monitoring difficult. Since drought is difficult to monitor and access, drought impacts are often poorly documented. …

Competing Values In The Culinary Arts And Hospitality Industry: Leadership Roles And Managerial Competencies, Michael W. Riggs, Aaron W. Hughey

Counseling & Student Affairs Faculty Publications

It is important that education and training programmes align with the needs of the professions they are designed to support. The culinary arts and hospitality industry is a vocational area that needs to be examined more closely to ensure that the skills and competencies taught are those that will actually be needed when students matriculate from career preparation programmes. This study compared the self-assessed leadership roles and managerial competencies of hospitality students and hospitality management professionals in employment. Using the Competing Values Framework (CVF) as a theoretical framework, eight leadership roles and 24 managerial competencies were examined in an effort …
