Williams, Paris, Kentucky. The former U.S. senator offers to discuss the terms on which Williams is to hire out slaves for Edwards’s factory business, but declines his request to train them in cigar-making. He also reports on his law studies, his hopes for financial success, and on a recent visit to Frankfort, Kentucky, where he found state legislators to be “mere factionists,” “without intelligence, without principle, dignity, [or] virtue.”
