Initiative And Referendum: A Maine Odyssey, Charles A. Scontras Oct 2016

Initiative And Referendum: A Maine Odyssey, Charles A. Scontras

Bureau of Labor Education

Maine is no stranger to the nation’s battles involving the development of the tools of direct democracy and how to use them. Since the citizen initiative and referendum were passed in late 1908, Mainers have used “the power of the people” to vote directly on many laws, bypassing the Legislature. There are three commercially important kelp species in Maine—sugar kelp (Saccharina latissima), winged kelp (Alaria esculenta), and horsetail kelp (Laminaria digitata). Kelp is grown on submerged horizontal long lines on leased sea farms from September to May, making it a “winter crop” for Maine. The simple farm design, …

A Conceptual Value Function To Explain The Benefits Derived From Users Of Free-To-Play Video Games, Connor M. Smart

Honors College

Customers of free-to-play video games are becoming one of the largest and most lucrative consumers of entertainment products in America, and yet relatively little formal literature has been written about these users. Because this customer group is significant and influential within the video game industry, and because video games are becoming a popular and mainstream medium, understanding these consumers is important to understanding our economy, our culture, and for making better gaming products.

This thesis will define a conceptual and qualitative value function that could help one better comprehend F2P consumers’ desires and needs in regards to free-to-play video games, …

Our vision, from our current strategic plan, is a Maine where people recognize that healthy ecosystems are the foundation of resilient communities, and act to ensure the long-term health of coastal resources. Maine’s coastal communities include viable neighborhoods, thriving waterfronts, and businesses that draw upon and maintain their natural and cultural heritage. Wild harvest and culture fisheries and the communities that depend on them are economically viable and environmentally sustainable. Maine has a diverse workforce skilled in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and other disciplines critical to the ecological health, economic vitality, and resilience of Maine’s coastal communities and ocean-related resources.
