Purpose – This research analyzes to what extent committing resources to the internationalization of family business groups is related to the institutional distance of the host country. Design/methodology/approach – We used OLS panel data with fixed effects. Findings – We identified that family business groups decide to internationalize themselves committing fewer resources to countries that present a positive institutional distance, and that are more institutionally developed than the country of origin. Risk Management And Capital Adequacy In Turkish Participation And Conventional Banks: A Comparative Stress Testing Analysis, M.Kabir Hassan, Omer Unsal, Hikmet Emre Tamer

In this study, we investigate changes in banks' capital adequacy ratio (CAR) under different stress scenarios and examine the results by comparing conventional banks to participation banks in Turkey. Our results report that the capital adequacy ratio of the banks declines substantially given the stress scenarios. We find that participation banks in Turkey suffer more in declined capital adequacy ratio compared to conventional banks. Our findings reveal that participation banks in Turkey are more sensitive to sudden changes in exchange rates and increased non-performing loans. However, this sensitivity is in regards to capital adequacy, not profit. Overall, our study shows …

Student-employment is an important aspect of a college student’s experience. According to Kathman and Kathman (2000), students benefit from an on-campus job, as they are able to develop strong interpersonal skills, and develop experience for their resumes (p 176). In this study, I examined the dynamics of a campus center-based student employment program, and the related training program that is administered by a campus operations department. A stronger dollar is accountable for a major effect on declining oil prices. Since oil is traded in U.S. dollars, oil prices are more likely to fall when the dollar becomes stronger. Thus, companies within the oil industry are delivering their worst results of the current decade due to plunging oil prices. However, the stronger dollar is not solely responsible for falling oil prices; the deteriorating demand of oil is the result of slowing growth in major countries such as China.

In the United States, the employment screening process for hiring full-time faculty in higher education involves the vetting of curricula vitae, phone interview(s), and/or campus visits (Cardeiro, 2010; Shively, Woodward, & Stanly, 1999). This article reports results of a qualitative study that examined the leadership process during an organizational crisis in the Brazilian electrical sector. The studied organization is a company involved with the generation and distribution of electric energy, which faced a crisis because of the rupture of electricity-distribution cables that affected the energy supply chain for a whole city, during approximately 52 hours. In this context, the authors analyzed the crisis’ stages and the organizational crisis management phases, in order to identify the leadership tasks adopted by organizational leaders during the crisis response.
