This study addressed a critical issue in our travel life: flight delays. This study covers all aspects of a flight delay, from its causes and consequences to reduction strategies. The focused research questions were: To determine the outcome of flight delays in the aviation industry, to determine costs associated with flight delays for airlines, airports, and passengers, and to determine strategies for reducing flight delays in the aviation industry for robust findings. This culminating experience project used artificial intelligence (AI) technology to forecast and analyze the stock market and construct complex nonlinear relationships between the input data and the output data. This project used a radial basis function neural network to forecast and analyze the stock market data. Compared the radial basis function neural network performance with the feed-forward neural network and clearly showed the superiority of the radial basis function neural network over the feed-forward neural network in the data processing. Stock market investment strategies are complex and rely on an evaluation of vast amounts of data. In recent years, machine learning techniques have increasingly been examined to assess whether they can improve market forecasting when compared with traditional approaches. With the prevalence of information technology (IT), the value of IT awareness increasingly grows, and IT control becomes a key part of firms’ strategies and objectives. Although leadership plays an important role in IT control governance, limited research has studied whether IT awareness is associated with IT control weaknesses (ITCWs) and firm performance simultaneously. Drawing on the agency and resource dependence theory, this paper proposes an integrative model to examine the impact of IT awareness on ITCWs and firm performance. Analysis Of Stock Price Movement Following Financial News Article Release, Robert P. Schumaker, Nick Maida

What effect does a financial news article have on stock price? To answer this question we investigate stock price movements within the minutes following financial news releases, broken down by media outlet, time of release and article sentiment. Our data shown a Sharpe ratio (a measure for calculating risk-adjusted return) of 1.18 versus a random dataset of ‑0.06, indicating significant price movement immediately following article release. Second, we found that articles released through WSJ, Reuters – UK Focus, NYT and FT all experienced significant positive returns, whereas articles in Barrons, MarketWatch, Forbes and Bloomberg experienced significant negative returns. The purpose of this thesis will explore the risk and return characteristics of socially responsible investing by comparing three indices, the Domini 400 Social Index (DS400 Index.), the KLD Catholic Values 400 Index (CV400 Index), and the Dow Jones Islamic Market Index (DJIMI). The second objective of the thesis is to contrast the three Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Indices with the Standard and Poor's 500 index (SP500). The purpose of this project was to test for such relations between the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the United States (U.S.). The GCC countries include the six countries of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The thesis examined the differences between the Chinese market, a fast-growing emerging market, and that of the United States, a well-known developed market. In order to understand the overall performance of the Chinese stock market, the research compared the risk and returns characteristics of Chinese stock markets using the S & P 500 Index for the 2000-2005 period. Findings show that significant differences exist between the Chinese and the U.S. markets. The thesis analyzed the performance of 5,987 mutual funds using a database called Steele Mutual Fund Experts and compared the predicting ability of various measures of performance. The measures discussed in the thesis are Treynor Ratio, Sharpe Ratio, Jensen's Alpha, Graham-Harvey-1 (GH-1), and Graham-Harvey-2 (GH-2). The project examines the relationship between trade interdependency and correlation of market returns between the United States and the four emerging economies of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The author analyzed statistical data for trade interdependency and market return to determine if there is a pattern that would provide the basis for increasing the return of a security portfolio without increasing the risk to the investor. The project analysis relied on mathematical formulas to measure the trade relationships between the selected countries and to calculate the measure of return and measure of risk of investing in each emergent market.
