The Future Of Api (Application Programming Interface) Security: The Adoption Of Apis For Digital Communications And The Implications For Cyber Security Vulnerabilities, Alison Munsch Phd, Peter Munsch Mba

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Businesses and consumers need to have a robust Application Programming Interface (API) management and security program in place to ensure they are using the most updated policies to certify that these transactions are adequately secure. Technology vendors do provide API Management tools for Customers, and there are established API security standards for securing API transactions. Given the effort to keep APIs open and easy to implement for Business to Business (B2B) and Business to Consumer (B2C) communications, security standards must be part of API management.

This research gathered data to investigate why APIs are vulnerable. The research explored the different …

Change Management Over Financial Information: A Multi-Criteria Evaluation Of System Change Controls Using Desirability Functions, Angel R. Otero, Christian Sonnenberg, Ivonne Delgado-Perez Apr 2020

Change Management Over Financial Information: A Multi-Criteria Evaluation Of System Change Controls Using Desirability Functions, Angel R. Otero, Christian Sonnenberg, Ivonne Delgado-Perez

Communications of the IIMA

The increasing complexity of information technology, attacks on confidential information, and the passing of new laws and regulations have shifted the focus around internal controls in organizations. Particularly, general information technology controls related to change management (i.e., system change controls) are critical in ensuring the integrity, completeness, and reliability of financial information. The literature points to various evaluation methods for these controls to determine which ones to implement. However, these methods do not necessarily consider relevant organization constraints, preventing the inclusion of required controls or the exclusion of unnecessary controls. This paper proposes a novel approach, using Desirability Functions, for …

An Integrated View Of Data: Application Of Knowledge Modeling To Data Management, Sung-Kwan Kim, Wenjun Wang Jan 2020

An Integrated View Of Data: Application Of Knowledge Modeling To Data Management, Sung-Kwan Kim, Wenjun Wang

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Data management has become an important challenge. Good data management requires an effective approach to collecting, storing, and accessing data across the enterprise. In this paper, a knowledge modeling approach to data management is introduced with an emphasis on data requirements analysis. A knowledge model can provide a high-level view of organizational data by specifying the structure and relationships of the knowledge contents used in business processes. The proposed knowledge modeling approach is business process oriented and decision oriented. The description of the knowledge contents in the model is based on ontological specification. The model is comprised of five elements: …

A Game-Theoretic Approach To Share The Costs Of Cooperating Healthcare Networks, Jay M. Lightfoot Jan 2019

A Game-Theoretic Approach To Share The Costs Of Cooperating Healthcare Networks, Jay M. Lightfoot

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

The growing demand for healthcare services combined with the disarray in the health insurance market in the United States has created a situation where rival health networks are aggressively competing by building duplicate health facilities and providing redundant services in localized geographic regions. Unfortunately, this strategy can reduce the quality of patient care and decrease profits (Kaissi & Charland, 2013). A solution to this problem is for health networks to cooperate and share healthcare equipment, facilities, and personnel. Toward that end, this paper presents a game-theoretic method that can share these costs in a fair, efficient, and repeatable manner.

How It Awareness Impacts It Control Weaknesses And Firm Performance, Peiqin Zhang, Ju Long, James Ma Dec 2018

How It Awareness Impacts It Control Weaknesses And Firm Performance, Peiqin Zhang, Ju Long, James Ma

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

With the prevalence of information technology (IT), the value of IT awareness increasingly grows, and IT control becomes a key part of firms’ strategies and objectives. Although leadership plays an important role in IT control governance, limited research has studied whether IT awareness is associated with IT control weaknesses (ITCWs) and firm performance simultaneously. Drawing on the agency and resource dependence theory, this paper proposes an integrative model to examine the impact of IT awareness on ITCWs and firm performance. We empirically validate the model using a data set of 310 firms collected from multiple sources including Audit Analytics, Compustat, …

Introducing Competencies In Organizations, Henk Plessius, Anand Sheombar, Pascal Ravesteyn Oct 2018

Introducing Competencies In Organizations, Henk Plessius, Anand Sheombar, Pascal Ravesteyn

Communications of the IIMA

In the fast-changing world of IT, relevant competencies are getting more important as these determine how successful you can function in practice. As a consequence, organizations are introducing competency frameworks like the European e-Competence Framework (e-CF, 2014) in their IT departments. However, for many organizations it is unclear what good practices and pitfalls are when introducing such a framework. In this paper this topic is studied by analysing 13 interviews with IT- and HR-managers who are (or recently have been) involved in a transition towards the use of competencies with their IT-staff.

An Integrated Perspective Of Multitasking And Multiple Team Membership, Shoshana Altschuller, Raquel Benbunan-Fich

Communications of the IIMA

Workers in today’s business environments are confronted with heavy workloads that reflect not only their regular job expectations but also their involvement in multiple teams at the same time. The majority of the current literature has studied these two topics (multitasking and multiple-team membership) independently. The goal of this paper is to integrate both conceptual outlooks by examining relevant works in both streams of research and merging them into an integrated framework. By analyzing new data collected from focus groups, and taking an individual worker’s perspective, the results of this study suggest that participating in multiple teams simultaneously, fragments workers …

Myomlab As An Enabling E-Learning Technology: Bridging The Gap Between Student- And Instructor-Centered Learning, Mahesh Gupta 8524783

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Technology is continually allowing educators to combine didactic and democratic approaches to facilitate learning and producing successful managers. This paper discusses how one such technology, myOMlab—integrated within a learning management system, Blackboard—can deliver core operations management course, catered primarily to working students i.e., interns and future managers. To confront the bias against online education and engage in serious research on online education, we share our experiences of teaching one semester-long online course. Although robust research evidence is yet to be gathered to convince educators about its benefits, we propose a set of successful myOMlab activities (including manual and Excel-based Dice …
