Moderating Effects Of Institutional Logics On Strategic Response To Coercive Institutional Change, Leon Paul Weeks Dec 2015

Moderating Effects Of Institutional Logics On Strategic Response To Coercive Institutional Change, Leon Paul Weeks

Business Administration Dissertations

Using institutional theory, the study examines the relationship between compliance behaviors and attitudes of small business owners and managers toward external coercive institutional change pressures. Organizations can experience conflicting institutional pressures (Pache & Santos, 2010). Variation in change pressures suggest heterogeneous impacts from institutional demands for change (e.g. Herremans, Herschovis, & Bertels, 2009). This study traces Internal Revenue Service regulatory, normative and cognitive-cultural changes targeting the tax preparation industry and examines the relationship between owner/managers attitudes about the changes and their compliance behaviors. Additionally this study traces the historical development of commercial and professional institutional logics in tax preparation and …

An Analysis Of The Interplay Between Goal Orientation And Ethical Leadership And The Theoretical Processes Through Which Ethical Leadership Influences Work Outcomes, Dennis John Marquardt

Business Administration Dissertations

Due to recent heightened public awareness of ethics and ethical scandals inbusiness, the ethical leadership construct has become increasingly popular. However, scholars still know little about the predictors of ethical leadership and the specific processes through which ethical leaders influence their followers. Across three different papers, I contribute to the literature by addressing these gaps. The first paper consists of a theoretical review of goal orientation and ethical leadership with specific focus on the interplay between the two constructs. In the second paper I use latent path analysis with a sample of 234 supervisor/subordinate dyads and find leader trait-avoid goal …

It's A Matter Of Give And Take: Exploring The Role Of Knowledge Transfer In The Supply Chain, Kimberly Whitehead Jan 2014

It's A Matter Of Give And Take: Exploring The Role Of Knowledge Transfer In The Supply Chain, Kimberly Whitehead

Business Administration Dissertations

Firm interdependence within supply chains continues to grow. This is driven by the need to leverage tangible and intangible resources within the supply chain for innovation, process management, customer satisfaction and meeting diverse stakeholder expectations. This research expands our understanding of supply chain collaboration by introducing new knowledge-based constructs that operationalize the abilities of a firm to transfer knowledge. These abilities are referred to as distributive capabilities. The distributive capabilities of an organization represent its ability to transfer commercially relevant knowledge through collaboration to a known recipient firm. Earlier research in this domain has focused on the abilities of a …

Effects Of Operations And Innovation Strategy Fit On Company Performance, James Edward Brown Jan 2014

Effects Of Operations And Innovation Strategy Fit On Company Performance, James Edward Brown

Business Administration Dissertations

For a company to survive long-term, it must be able to innovate and develop new products and services. There are two types of broad innovation classifications: exploration and exploitation. These two types of innovation require different resources, have different risks, and have different time horizons for the company to receive the benefits. Operations strategies impact the type and quantity of resources available. The concept of fit has been used to match operations strategy and corporate strategy. This dissertation will extend this concept to the relationship between innovation strategy and operations strategy. Building on The Resource Based View and Punctuated Equilibrium, …

Individual Human Capital And Performance: An Empirical Study In Thailand, Pakorn Sujchaphong

Business Administration Dissertations

According to the resource-based view of the firm, human capital is a source of sustained competitive advantage of the firm (McMahan, Virick, & Wright, 1999; Wright & McMahan, 1992; Wright, McMahan, & McWilliams, 1994; Wright & McMahan, 2011). Hence, this study focuses on the individual level of human capital. The first research question of this study is "How does human capital affect the performance of …

A Management Dashboard Model For Supply Chain Cost Estimations, Brad Masters Jan 2013

A Management Dashboard Model For Supply Chain Cost Estimations, Brad Masters

Business Administration Dissertations

As many organizations are unable to alter existing accounting systems for an Activity Based-type costing requirement, a "Dashboard" Costing Model is proposed. The model will 1) empirically verify management assumptions regarding actual Supply Chain costs, 2) satisfy management's objectives for acceptable accuracy and simplicity and 3) contribute to the current body of research by providing alternative methods of estimating Supply Chain costs within the Transaction Cost Economics framework. Future studies can expand upon this costing methodology, and test its applicability with other organizations in other industries for accuracy improvement and refinement.

What Drives Firm-Level Consensus Growth Forecasts? Cash Flow News Or Expected Return News?, Giao X. Nguyen Jul 2007

What Drives Firm-Level Consensus Growth Forecasts? Cash Flow News Or Expected Return News?, Giao X. Nguyen

Business Administration Dissertations

Recent findings in the finance literature document that analysts adjust their growth forecasts in response to major news, proxied by large changes in company stock price. However, Campbell and Shiller (1988) argue that stock prices, themselves, carry two sets of information: news about changes in cash-flow expectation (i.e. cash flow news) and changes in discount rate (i.e. expected return news). The former one directly relates to changes in expectation about the fundamentals of the company while the latter one to the changes in market expectation. Hence, are analysts more concerned about expectation of the permanent movement in the stock price …

Graduate Business Education And Perceptions Of Employment Opportunities, Frederick Robert Buchanan Aug 2006

Graduate Business Education And Perceptions Of Employment Opportunities, Frederick Robert Buchanan

Business Administration Dissertations

The value of master's level business education has been previously studied primarily through cost/benefit analysis, generally confirming that MBAs make more money. This study addresses the large question of the value of business master's education by carving out a small area of interest. It looks at the relationship of individual differences to perceptions of organizational mobility, which is a precursor to voluntary turnover. Three research questions are investigated. The first question is the relationship of cognitive ability to perceived organizational mobility. Cognitive ability was not seen by itself to be significantly related to perceived organizational mobility. In conjunction with high …

Defined Benefit Pensions: Funding And Asset Allocation Choices, Melissa Susan Lind Aug 2006

Defined Benefit Pensions: Funding And Asset Allocation Choices, Melissa Susan Lind

Business Administration Dissertations

Because of their large size, defined benefit pension plans are an important component of U.S. corporate finances and capital markets. The value of pension plans comprises a sizable portion of the sponsoring firm's assets and impacts the sponsoring firm's profitability and risk. Plan funding status has a direct impact on firm earnings. Corporate sponsors of overfunded plans may reduce or eliminate cash contributions to the plan, improving earnings. In contrast, underfunded plans require large expedited contributions that lower earnings. Plan investment choices may magnify the effect of funding on earnings when markets are volatile and managers invest a greater portion …

Determinants Of Adverse Usage Of Information Systems Assets: A Study Of Antecedents Of Is Exploit In Organizations, Aakash Taneja

Business Administration Dissertations

Information systems assets are vital to the functioning and survival of organizations. Therefore, organizations expend many resources in protecting these assets. Organizations spent resources on technologies, policies, procedures, guidelines, user awareness, education, training and other protection mechanisms. Advancing technology and complexity of organizations make the protection of these assets a continuing challenge. Studies show that in spite of these efforts, the main reason for security failures in organizations is due to human behavior (Stanton et al. 2004). This study speaks for an enhanced behavioral model for the adverse usage of IS assets and addresses the factors that influence these behaviors. …

Effects Of Legitimacy, Agency, And Business Risk On Board Structure In Initial Public Offering Firms: The Moderating Impact Of Ceo Incentive Alignment, Ceo Power, And Stock Market Conditions, Yousuf Hamed Al-Busaidi

Business Administration Dissertations

Board structure is generally seen as a means for acquiring resources, monitoring managerial behaviors, and enhancing firm legitimacy. Further, it is believed that the capacity of the board of directors to accomplish the above would improve with increasing outsider ratio, separation of CEO/chairman positions, and increasing board size. Previous studies found that an independent board plays an essential role in the long-term success of the firm. The role of the board is even more crucial during the firm's transformation from a privately held to a public company (i.e., Initial Pubic Offering). This study investigated the influence of IPO firms' risk …
