Emphasizes the importance of the Persian Gulf, South China Sea, East China Sea, Russia, and the Arctic to U.S. and international economic and strategic developments. Much research has been conducted on charitable giving where it is analyzed as a single, undifferentiated philanthropic transfer concept. Relatively less research has explored factors associated with special donation types such as

1) bequests,

2) lifetime donations to specific cause types, or

3) the intersection of bequests and lifetime donations to specific cause types.

This dissertation provides new information addressing all three of these areas.

Increased human development and its adverse effects on nature require that our society establish new environmental policies to address these. The implementation and/or modification of environmental policies and regulations comes with its challenges. Evidence-based scientific discoveries play a key part in making effective environmental policy. Without access to and transmission of scientific information, environmental mangers and politicians have no basis to support regulatory changes. Similarly, scientists that do not engage with environmental managers and politicians are restricted developing their scholarly findings into active reform.
