Trust, Collaboration, And Financial Return In Conservation/Development Partnerships, New England Environmental Finance Center

Economics and Finance

In early 2002 the New England Environmental Finance Center hosted a series of roundtable discussions among municipal officials, residential developers, land trust representatives, and others about "Innovative Approaches to Land Conservation and Smart Growth". Among our observations was that for many of the over 20 conservation/development partnerships we discussed in the series, creation and maintenance of trust was central to success or failure of various stages of the partnership. This suggested a link between creation of trust and financial return for traditionally opposed project partners.

This study examines the behavior of gamblers who have a specific area of preferred gambling. Some gamblers prefer casino games such as table games and slots while others prefer sports betting or pari-mutuel wagering. The intention of this study was to identify differences in behaviors, activities, and attitudes of gamblers that indulge in different types of gambling. This information will be important to marketing professionals of the gaming industry in assisting them to develop promotional activities for their perspective target markets. This article offers an analysis of a struggle for control of a women’s development project in Nepal. The story of this struggle is worth telling, for it is rife with the gender politics and neo-colonial context that underscore much of what goes on in contemporary Nepal. In particular, my analysis helps to unravel some of the powerful discourses, threads of interest, and yet unintended effects inevitable under a regime of development aid. At a time when recreational resources are being put under increasing pressure, this study investigates to what extent recreational access in and to the L.Dan/L.Tay area of North Co. Wicklow is an issue for landowners and recreational users. The study area was chosen because of its closeness to Dublin, its popularity as a recreational destination, and the perception that conflicts between landowners and recreational users are becoming more common in the area.
