This report conducted for Sea World provides an appraisal of the economic impact of theme park capital spending, and reinvestment. The study is based on an analysis of the performance of 17 parks operated by 4 major publicly held entertainment companies, using data contained in annual reports and the 10-K reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In aggregate, the sample is broadly representative of the industry, with the parks in question accounting for nearly 60 percent of the total paid attendance in domestic U.S. theme parks. The Tourism Barometer II forecasts generated for the first and second quarters of 1989 foresee an increase of 11.11% and 9.44%, respectively. The increase could be attributed to a few factors. First, some of the air carriers have reduced the air fares previously increased in the Fall of 1988, and offered special promotional fares for the first quarter of 1989.

The primary objective of the study was to analyze the existing and potential market of Watermania in order to increase visitor attendance and improve the park's attractiveness. The findings were also used for comparison with a similar study conducted in the summer of 1987. To meet this end, a sample of the park visitors was interviewed and was asked to express their attitudes toward the park and its features. In July 1988, Harrison Price Company completed an analysis of the feasibility of developing a world class oceanarium in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan. The findings were strongly positive and it was concluded that operating profits would support an order of magnitude investment of $300 million, which in turn, would be sufficient to construct the finest marine life park in the world. A state's image as perceived by its actual and potential tourists plays a significant role in determining its competitiveness as a tourist destination. A state's image influences a tourist's vacation destination decisions. This study consisted of research conducted at The Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) and The Georgia Southern Museum (GSM). Research at SMM consisted of exploratory research involving an unobtrusive observation of interpretive theatre programs performed at that museum and the effect of interpretive theatre on museum visitors. Particular attention was paid to the influence of theatre on children as the sample population for continued research at GSM was children ages 8-12.
