Fifty Years Of The Strategic Trade-Offs Model: In Memory And Honor Of Wickham Skinner, Roberto Sarmiento, Garvan Whelan, Matthias Thürer, Francisco Arturo Bribiescas-Silva

In 1969, Professor Wickham Skinner, whom many consider as “the father of manufacturing strategy,” published a seminal paper entitled “Manufacturing-Missing Link in Corporate Strategy.” Among the many interesting insights outlined in that article, Skinner is particularly careful to explain the importance of acknowledging the existence of specific trade-offs in the design of production systems. For example, he warns that a failure on the part of executives to recognize the limitations and compromises that are inherent to all technology and human based systems will inevitably result in a diminished ability of firms to compete successfully in the marketplace. Fifty years after …

The Value And Feasibility Of Farming Differently Than The Local Average, Cooper Morris, Kevin Dhuyvetter, Elizabeth A. Yeager, Greg Regier
Journal of Applied Farm Economics
The purpose of this research is to quantify the value of being different than the local average and feasibility of distinguishing particular parts of an operation from the local average. Kansas crop farms are broken down by their farm characteristics, production practices, and management performances. An ordinary least squares regression model is used to quantify the value of having different than average characteristics, practices, and management performances. The degree farms have distinguished particular parts of their operations from the average, and how consistently they distinguish their cost, yields, and prices from the average are also analyzed. Farms’ relative size, workers …

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings
Crowdfunding is a method of raising funds for projects, creative pursuits, peer-to-peer lending, and charitable causes. In stark contrast, the hostel industry began in 1909 and is mostly comprised of independently owned and operated guesthouses, with the largest global chain comprising of less than twenty properties. How Does Alignment Of Business And It Strategies Impact Aspects Of It Effectiveness?, Shankar Babu Chebrolu, Lawrence Ness
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
Alignment between information technology (IT) and business stakeholders on their strategies has traditionally been viewed as the means to achieve greater IT delivery capabilities, but there is lack of empirical evidence as to how strategic alignment impacts individual aspects of IT effectiveness (e.g., quality of service [QoS], user satisfaction, and IT helpfulness to users); there is also a lack of empirical evidence surrounding how each individual element of strategic alignment impacts overall IT effectiveness. The intent of this research was to contribute to the body of knowledge that could be applied by researchers, businesses, and IT organizations alike to achieve …
