Industry Clusters And Economic Development: A Learning Resource, Edward J. Feser
Industry Clusters And Economic Development: A Learning Resource, Edward J. Feser
Edward J Feser
One of the most widely discussed issues in community and economic development today is the role of industry clusters as engines of regional growth and development. Many communities are undertaking cluster studies or initiating cluster planning exercises as a way to organize development strategies to promote key local economic strengths or to shore up identified weaknesses. A large consulting industry has emerged to serve governments’ interest in clusters and the research literature on the topic is growing rapidly. At the same time, some analysts have likened clusters to another economic development fad that will eventually be supplanted by the next …

Narratives Of Job Satisfaction On The World Wide Web: Interpretations Of Value And Reward Within The “100 Best Companies To Work For In America”, Douglas J. Swanson Ed.D Apr
Douglas J. Swanson, Ed.D APR
This research analyzed employee job satisfaction narratives on World Wide Web sites of companies named among Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America.” Fewer than one-third of WWW sites included narratives. Narratives were most likely to express job satisfaction in personal, emotional terms and least likely to identify job security, benefits, or compensation as important rewards of work. Narratives often appeared targeted toward new college graduates. Clichés were used excessively in Web sites and narratives.

This article compares the effects of board size, proportion of female directors, proportion of outside directors and average age of directors on firm performance in Japanese and Australian firms. We found that board size and age of directors were negatively associated with the performance of Japanese firms. For Australian firms, outsider ratio and female director ratio were positively associated with performance.

The challenge of seismic safety is better testing of building systems rather than just components. This mobile test platform may offer an inexpensive method of testing building performance.
Zum Stand Der Elektronischen Kooperation - Fallstudien, Muster Und Handlungsempfehlungen, Enrico Senger
Zum Stand Der Elektronischen Kooperation - Fallstudien, Muster Und Handlungsempfehlungen, Enrico Senger
Enrico Senger
The Creation And Growth Of Ict Based Industrial Clusters: The New Zealand Case, Malcolm J. Fraser, Stephen Kelly
The Creation And Growth Of Ict Based Industrial Clusters: The New Zealand Case, Malcolm J. Fraser, Stephen Kelly
Malcolm Fraser
This paper provides an exploratory review of current global research on industrial clusters, and seeks to identify the key success components of these clusters. It then discusses these attributes in terms of their implication for New Zealand ICT industrial clusters. It is argued that by reviewing the success attributes underpinning industrial clusters a baseline can be established for decision-making in both the commercial activities of industry vertical groups, as well as local/central government economic policy formulation. The paper identifies the key success factors as the presence of large pillar firms that intact with strong local demand via a sophisticated work …
A Logic For Entrepreneurial Discovery., Patrick J. Murphy
A Logic For Entrepreneurial Discovery., Patrick J. Murphy
Patrick J. Murphy
This dissertation employs an epistemological approach to integrate several branches of social science (i.e., economics, marketing, sociology, psychology) that have contributed to the scholarly field of entrepreneurship. The integration yielded a novel theoretic framework with empirical implications for the study of the entrepreneurial opportunity recognition phenomenon. Empirical assessment of the framework revealed support for models of knowledge-based indicators as forecasters of three different forms of opportunity recognition identified in previous research and theory (i.e., idea-first, business-first, simultaneous). Marginal support was found for the same models as forecasters of the establishment of new business ventures. Ultimately, no support was found for …
