This study furthers the research on work engagement, organizational (on-the-job) embeddedness, and perceived organizational support by examining the relationships between these variables through a mediating factor, trust in leadership. Specifically, the study investigates the role of trust as a mediator between organizational job embeddedness and work engagement, and between perceived organizational support and work engagement. In a sample of 318 local county government employees, findings provide support for the hypothesized relationships. Trust in leadership is strongly related to work engagement; trust partially mediates the relationship between organizational job embeddedness and work engagement, and between perceived organizational support and work engagement. …

Management educators are confronted with a variety of teaching challenges as they attempt to distill and instill practical knowledge. Compounding this overarching challenge is millennial students’ desire to be actively involved in their own learning and their need to receive immediate feedback regarding the practical implications of their course material. Increasing globalization and the economic uncertainty inherent in the recent financial crisis have strained the already tenuous commitment of many employees, making followers’ perceptions of justice and trust more critical now than ever before in retaining a loyal workforce. A model of leadership, organizational justice, trust, and work outcomes such as commitment and satisfaction, similar to the one tested in the US, was extended to three countries in the so-called “Confucian Asian Cluster” in the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) study.
