Supply Chain Contracts, Coordination, And Ego Networks. A Research Proposal, Torsten Doering, Max Winterburn Dec 2018

Supply Chain Contracts, Coordination, And Ego Networks. A Research Proposal, Torsten Doering, Max Winterburn

Articles & Book Chapters

The potential of interest alignment between independent firms through supply chain contracts (SCC)is not fully utilized. An exhausting amount of analytical research indicates advantages of SCCs, buttheir use in practice is limited (Cachon, 2003). This article aims to illuminate the purpose of supply chain specific contracts as an interorganizational coordination tool, as seen through the lens of organizational theory. The central question of this study relates to the conditions and antecedents of supply chain contract use, with an emphasis on vertical dyadic and secondary horizontal links between companies in a supply chain. A review shows that this topic can benefit …

Containing Risk When Maximizing Supply-Chain Performance, Harrison Luvai Nov 2018

Containing Risk When Maximizing Supply-Chain Performance, Harrison Luvai

Dissertations

The objective of this dissertation is to develop and test an approach that will quantify the level of risk in the supply chain, evaluate the cost and impact of risk mitigation strategies, validate event management protocols pre-implementation, and optimize across a portfolio of risk mitigation strategies. The research integrates a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model and a Discrete Event Simulation model to investigate a production-inventory-transportation problem subject to risk. The MILP model calculates the optimal Net Profit Contribution of the supply chain in the absence of risk. Deviation risks are introduced as volatility in final demand and lead times, …

Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni Sep 2018

Optimizing Strategic Sourcing In The Healthcare Supply Chain With Consideration Of Physician Preference And Vendor Scorecards, Parimal Kulkarni

Dissertations

This research focuses on the design of a procurement model for expensive medical supplies in a healthcare supply chain. A deterministic optimization model generates recommendations for optimal purchases of products in a given planning period. The model combines common concepts of supply chain procurement such as leveraging tiered pricing, ensuring supply base diversity with phenomena unique to healthcare supply chain such as consideration of physician preference for products. The deterministic optimization model minimizes total spend over a chosen planning period with consideration of four key decision parameters:

  • Physician preference requirements (which are imposed as rules on product substitutability),
  • Upper limits …

Organizational Communication And Individual Behavior: Implications For Supply Chain Risk Management, Scott Duhadway, Steven Carnovale, Vijay R. Kannan Jul 2018

Organizational Communication And Individual Behavior: Implications For Supply Chain Risk Management, Scott Duhadway, Steven Carnovale, Vijay R. Kannan

Business Faculty Publications and Presentations

Risk is a significant issue for supply chain managers. Not only must they contend with multiple dimensions of risk in decision making, they must reconcile decision making with broader organizational interests. This study examines the influence of organizational communication regarding supply chain risk on individual decision-making strategies and the perceptions of risk. A multi-stage experimental design is applied, in which decision makers make decisions across three dimensions of risk and adjust their risk-taking behavior after being presented with organizational communication regarding supply chain risk levels. The relationship between organizational communication and the perceptions of supply chain risk is then explored …

Optimal Stackelberg Strategies For Financing A Supply Chain Through Online Peer-To-Peer Lending, Guang-Xin Gao, Zhi-Ping Fan, Xin Fang, Yun Fong Lim Jun 2018

Optimal Stackelberg Strategies For Financing A Supply Chain Through Online Peer-To-Peer Lending, Guang-Xin Gao, Zhi-Ping Fan, Xin Fang, Yun Fong Lim

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In recent years, supply chain finance (SCF) through online peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms has gained its popularity. We study an SCF system with a manufacturer selling a product to a retailer that faces uncertain demand over a single period. We assume that either the retailer or the manufacturer faces a capital constraint and must borrow capital through an online P2P lending platform. The platform determines a service rate for the loan, the manufacturer sets a wholesale price for the product, and the retailer chooses its order quantity for the product. We identify optimal Stackelberg strategies of the participants in the …

A Refined Framework Of Information Sharing In Perishable Product Supply Chains, Luluk Lusiantoro, Nicky Yates, Carlos Mena, Liz Varga Jan 2018

A Refined Framework Of Information Sharing In Perishable Product Supply Chains, Luluk Lusiantoro, Nicky Yates, Carlos Mena, Liz Varga

Business Faculty Publications and Presentations

Purpose – This study contributes to our understanding of the relationship between information sharing and performance of perishable product supply chains (PPSC). Building on transaction cost economics (TCE), organisational information processing theory (OIPT), and contingency theory (CT) this study proposes a theoretical framework to guide future research into information sharing in perishable product supply chains (IS-PPSC).

Design/methodology/approach – Using the systematic literature review methodology, 48 peer-reviewed articles are carefully selected, mapped, and assessed. Template analysis is performed to unravel the relationship mechanisms between information sharing and PPSC performance.

Findings – We find that the relationship between information sharing and PPSC …
