Early Detection Of Fake News On Social Media, Yang Liu
Early Detection Of Fake News On Social Media, Yang Liu
Dissertations
The ever-increasing popularity and convenience of social media enable the rapid widespread of fake news, which can cause a series of negative impacts both on individuals and society. Early detection of fake news is essential to minimize its social harm. Existing machine learning approaches are incapable of detecting a fake news story soon after it starts to spread, because they require certain amounts of data to reach decent effectiveness which take time to accumulate. To solve this problem, this research first analyzes and finds that, on social media, the user characteristics of fake news spreaders distribute significantly differently from those …

A Desire Fulfillment Theory Of Digital Game Enjoyment, Owen M. Schaffer
College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations
Empirical research on what makes digital games enjoyable is critical for practitioners who want to design for enjoyment, including for Game Design, Gamification, and Serious Games. But existing theories of what leads to digital game enjoyment have been incomplete or lacking in empirical support showing their impact on enjoyment.
Desire Fulfillment Theory is proposed as a new theory of what leads to digital game enjoyment and tested through research with people who have recently played a digital game. This theory builds on three established theories: Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory, Theory of Basic Human Desires, and Flow Theory. These three theories are …

Making Good Decisions: An Attribution Model Of Decision Quality In Decision Tasks, Bethany Niese
Making Good Decisions: An Attribution Model Of Decision Quality In Decision Tasks, Bethany Niese
PhD in Business Administration Dissertations
Decision-makers endeavor to obtain the decision quality which puts them in a position to reach their goals. In order to control or influence decision quality, the processes by which individuals form their beliefs must be understood. In addition, many decision makers rely on decision support technologies to help find patterns in data and make sense of the input, so these technologies must be considered in parallel with the processes.
There have been numerous studies conducted to illuminate the factors which affect decision quality, however, many of these studies focused on objective measures and factors. This approach ignores individual perception, belief, …
Systems Approach To Evaluating Mih-Cp (Mobile Integrated Healthcare – Community Paramedicine): A Case Study Of East Baton Rouge Parish (Ebrp) Emergency Medical Services (Ems) Community Paramedicine Program Initiative, Oluwakemi Aiyedun
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This study applied a holistic method of healthcare program assessment, known as systems approach, to evaluate the efficacy of the East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP) EMS Community-integrated Health Program (CIHP). The author developed assessment metrics following the Quadruple Aim Framework: IHI (Institute for Healthcare Improvement) Triple Aim + Provider Experience.
Results showed that the CP program in this study delivers high ratings on patient experience and provided a 51% return on investment (ROI) through reduced emergency service utilization, ED visits and inpatient hospital admissions. However, findings did not demonstrate meaningful improvement in patients’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and self-efficacy …

Effective Use Of Information Systems For Emergency Management: A Representation Theory Perspective, Dario Bonaretti
Effective Use Of Information Systems For Emergency Management: A Representation Theory Perspective, Dario Bonaretti
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Effective Use Theory (EUT) has emerged as a promising native Information Systems (IS) theory to understand a central phenomenon of interest to the discipline: the effective use of information systems. While EUT is widely accepted in operational control and management control contexts, its validity in chaotic environments has yet to be demonstrated. To contribute to the research program in EUT, scholars called for contextualizing and assessing EUT in chaotic environment, such as emergencies or crises events. This research seeks to apply EUT to understand the effective use of emergency information systems (EMIS). Seeking a grand theory of effective use in …

Effects Of Supplemental Bid Documentation, Alexis M. Bynum
Construction Management
As the complexity of construction projects increases, more work is being subcontracted out by general contractors who oversee the construction of the project. Research suggests that a variety of factors are impacting subcontractors when putting together a bid. These factors were considered in determining a proposed solution for simplifying the bid process. This case study attempts to analyze the bidding process of construction projects in order to improve the accuracy of bids. Traditionally, bid documents include plans and specifications. This study analyzes the effects of adding a scope of work, as ascertained by the general contractor for each trade, to …
The Moderating Effect Of Media Naturalness On Motivating Language, James Cox
The Moderating Effect Of Media Naturalness On Motivating Language, James Cox
Theses and Dissertations
For decades, the research in communication in organizational behavior has focused on the reduction of uncertainty and consequently so has the research of leadership and computer mediated communication (CMC) (Salancik & Pfeffer, 1977; Sullivan, 1988). Because of this, many of the controversial issues and competing theories of CMC that have in good part centered around the topic of media choice in the context of task performance, which is a reflection of this narrow focus of CMC on uncertainty reduction. Therefore in order to study the more whole form of communication in motivation proposed by Sullivan (1988), a CMC theory is …

Creating An Internet Of Things Platform For Storing Smart Sensor Data Using Amazon Web Services, Jin Hyeok Noh
Honors Theses
Water is one of the essential resources that we should be aware of conserving, but lawn sprinkler systems in Mississippi have inefficient resource management systems. During my fundamental research, I read an article about IoT (Internet of Things) and how important it will be in the future. Both of these topics inspired prototype research. In order to create the prototype, a Raspberry Pi, breadboard, keyboard, monitor, and cables were used. Using the Raspberry Pi, monitors, and keyboard, the software was developed in order to create a RESTFUL API gateway to connect to AWS (Amazon Web Service). In the AWS console, …

The Application Of Paperless Processes To Improve Data Management Within Small To Medium Businesses, Kelley D. Nemec
Honors College Theses
Businesses are creating new value by implementing new processes built on modern tools. Small businesses, though, with much fewer resources than the most significant competitors, cannot follow the same path. How can these businesses use standard, widely available tools and techniques to improve their processes and create value within their business? This paper discusses the implementation of paperless processes using the electronic form technology, Google Forms, within the Honors Program at Georgia Southern University over two years. Action research methods were used to guide the research and implementation of new processes. Through the introduction of cloud-based electronic forms and process …

One of Worcester Interfaith’s goals is to eradicate the stigma of affordable housing in Worcester. Currently, the perception of affordable housing is of an image of unkept and old residences filled with destitute citizens who cannot afford basic needs to live in a city, let alone housing. This image is perpetuated by media, stigma, and a lack of education of the true reality of affordable housing and who its recipients are. Affordable housing-qualified citizens represent a range of educations, professions, age, race, and income levels. Affordable housing units, too, represent a variety of homes, many of which are extremely well-kept …

A Novel Framework For Social Internet Of Things: Leveraging The Friendships And The Services Exchanged Between Smart Devices, Javad Abed
Theses and Dissertations
As humans, we tackle many problems in complex societies and manage the complexities of networked social systems. Cognition and sociability are two vital human capabilities that improve social life and complex social interactions. Adding these features to smart devices makes them capable of managing complex and networked Internet of Things (IoT) settings.
Cognitive and social devices can improve their relationships and connections with other devices and people to better serve human needs. Nowadays, researchers are investigating two future generations of IoT: social IoT (SIoT) and cognitive IoT (CIoT). This study develops a new framework for IoT, called CSIoT, by using …
