Economic Aspects Of Internet Security, Henk Lm Kox, Bas Straathof Jul 2013

Economic Aspects Of Internet Security, Henk Lm Kox, Bas Straathof

Henk LM Kox

An economic perspective on Internet security is useful not only for identifying weak spots, but also for finding solutions to security problems. It focuses on the behaviour and economic incentives of both infrastructure providers and end users. Individual parties may have insufficient incentives to invest in cybersecurity. The free play of markets markets may not deliver a socially optimal level of security on the Internet for at least three reasons: information asymmetry, externalities and market power. Information asymmetry might occur in various situations. For example, end users are not able to verify whether an Internet Service Provider (ISP) correctly informs …

A Performance Measurement Framework For It Service Management, Francis Gacenga Dr. Jun 2013

A Performance Measurement Framework For It Service Management, Francis Gacenga Dr.

Francis Gacenga Dr.

The use of Information Technology (IT) has become more pervasive and, progressively, there has been a shift from a technology focus to a service focus in managing IT. The performance measurement of IT service management (ITSM) is a major challenge faced by organisations adopting best practice frameworks. The extensive adoption of ITSM frameworks by organisations may point to the acceptance by IT service managers that best practice frameworks such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) and standards such as ISO/IEC 20000 can deliver real operational efficiencies, ultimately translating into business benefits. Some organisations implementing ITSM initiatives have reported realisation of …

A Value-Based Approach For Explaining The Adoption Intention Of Mobile Data Services, Mutaz M. Al-Debei

Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei

This study aims at explaining the factors affecting the adoption intention of mobile data services from the perspective of consumers as users. In this study we focus on the value users can potentially gain from using these services. We hypothesize that if we can examine users' utilitarian, hedonic, uniqueness, epistemic and economic value, then we can explain and predict their intention to use mobile data services. Our results show that utilitarian value is according to previous studies an important adoption factor. Additionally, economic value is also important and significant. Nevertheless, it seems that in our context, hedonic, uniqueness, and epistemic …

Cfp: Handbook Of Research On Technological Applications And Innovation For Economic Development, Deogratias Harorimana Mr Mar 2013

Cfp: Handbook Of Research On Technological Applications And Innovation For Economic Development, Deogratias Harorimana Mr

Dr Deogratias Harorimana

The innovation in the 21st century goes significantly beyond the high-tech picture driven by small or large industry clusters in a specific region-typically Silicon Valley and M4Corridor. The future of innovation will lie within knowledge management and seamless technological applications. These will be supported by planned funding strategies, possibly with clients as drivers of the innovation. This view seems to be supported by the UK government “Technology and Innovation Futures” (2011); the USA government (2011), study into which leading scholars concede that the future innovation and technological applications for economic growth will include products and processes, improvements in areas such …

What Cost Knowledge Management? The Example Of Infosys., Chris Kimble Feb 2013

What Cost Knowledge Management? The Example Of Infosys., Chris Kimble

Chris Kimble

The term knowledge management (KM) first came to prominence in the late 1990s. Although initially dismissed as a fad, KM continues to be featured in articles concerning business productivity and innovation. And yet, clear-cut examples that demonstrate the success of KM are few and far between. A brief examination of the history of KM explores the reasons for this and looks at some of the assumptions about what KM can achieve. A subsequent analysis of the experiences of Infosys with KM shows that for KM to be successful, organizational leaders need to engage in a continuous process of modification and …

Sensitivity Analysis And Optimization For Selected Supply Chain Management Issues In The Company – Using System Dynamics And Vensim, Elżbieta Kasperska, Elwira Mateja-Losa, Rafał Marjasz

Journal of Entrepreneurship, Management and Innovation JEMI

The aim of our paper is to present the new results of research work on optimization and simulation for some logistic problems in the company. The System Dynamics (SD) method and the Vensim simulation language are applied in order to solve specific managerial problems described by Forrester in the model of supply chain. The historical model of Customer-Producer-Employment System by Forrester (Forrester, 1961) has not been examined with the sensitivity analysis, from the “automatic” testing perspective. Optimization experiments have not been conducted, either. It is surprising, since the model is old and widely known. The opportunities offered by the Vensim …

Smart Regions. Two Cases Of Crowdsourcing For Regional Development, Steffen Roth, Jari Kaivo-Oja, Thomas Hirschmann

Dr. Steffen Roth

Despite a certified need for stronger ties between regional entrepreneurial ecosystems and larger networks, and despite an emerging discourse on beneficial interlinks between crowdsourcing and urban development, the relationship between crowdsourcing and regional development is underexplored. Unlike the few existing reports on voluntary bottom-up crowdsourcing initiatives for regional development, the focus of the present article is on two cases of top-down initiatives of crowdsourcing for regional development launched by institutional actors in the Swiss Canton of Valais and the Italian autonomous province, South Tyrol. The results of a comparison of the two cases suggest consideration of the strength of regional …

Dr. Mutaz M. Al-Debei

The main aim of this research is to investigate the role of web portals in improving job performance at the individual level from the perspective of employees as users. This is deemed significant as yet little research has assessed the success of web portals in delivering benefits at the individual level in terms of improved performance in developing countries. The DeLone and McLean IS success model was used as a foundational theory and then was refined to match the context of the current research. In fact, the functions and features of portals were identified, clustered and then linked to portals’ …

Analysis United Kingdom And United States Healthcare, Joyce K. Kutin Jan 2013

Analysis United Kingdom And United States Healthcare, Joyce K. Kutin

Joyce K Kutin RN, MSN, MOL

United Kingdom and the United States are two dissimilar health systems each having uniquely differing focuses, where the primary differences are a parliamentary verses a republic government application toward the socioeconomic requirements of the populace. The United Kingdom’s National Health Service interprets health care as a public service rather than the commodity. The United States healthcare system is riddled with disparities regarding quality, access and cost. The socioeconomic poor and or homeless are less likely to utilize the healthcare system when compared to others who are more fortunate. Health care systems are facing the same challenges around the world with …

The Performativity Of Critique, Dirk Postma Jan 2013

The Performativity Of Critique, Dirk Postma

Dirk Postma

This paper rethinks critical research by defining critique as a performative sociomaterial practice through which reality is being enacted differently. Such critical practices originate from an expanded concept of agency where both humans and nonhumans actively participate. This conception of critique aims to address the theory/practice divide and the humanistic assumptions within most critical research. Critical research as a form of theorising could gain new impetus when it focuses on the multiple ways in which forms of domination are challenged through everyday practices.
