External Confirmation Of Adherence To Standards: As Applicable To Academic Programmes As To Business And Industry, Aaron W. Hughey, Monica G. Burke
External Confirmation Of Adherence To Standards: As Applicable To Academic Programmes As To Business And Industry, Aaron W. Hughey, Monica G. Burke
Counseling & Student Affairs Faculty Publications
The development of, and adherence to, performance standards is imperative for success in today’s competitive global market. This is as true for academic programmes in higher education as it is for the manufacturing and service sectors. Just like their counterparts in business and industry, it is important that graduate career preparation programmes are subject to an external validation process that can substantiate whether or not they are indeed following applicable standards. In this paper the authors discuss the current status of accreditation for graduate programmes designed to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in the student services profession and argue for the development …
Illegal Substance Abuse In The Full-Service Restaurant Industry: An Evaluation Of Pre-Employment Drug-Testing, Miranda Kitterlin
Illegal Substance Abuse In The Full-Service Restaurant Industry: An Evaluation Of Pre-Employment Drug-Testing, Miranda Kitterlin
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The purpose of this research is to assess the effect of pre-employment drug-testing policies on employee attitudes and aspects of work performance in the full-service restaurant industry. Specifically, this study attempts to compare the rate of absenteeism, turnover, and work-related accidents and injuries in full-service restaurants with pre-employment drug-testing policies against the aforementioned aspects of work performance in full-service restaurants without pre-employment drug-testing polices. This research also attempts to explore the perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs of full-service restaurant hourly employees and management staff in regards to pre-employment drug-testing policies in the full-service restaurant industry. For the purpose of this study, …
Employer Perceptions Of Work Flexibility: Role Of Skills And Wages In Job Performance, Raymond L. Raab, Pradeep Kotamraju, Maureen O'Brien
Employer Perceptions Of Work Flexibility: Role Of Skills And Wages In Job Performance, Raymond L. Raab, Pradeep Kotamraju, Maureen O'Brien
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
A programming approach, data envelopment analysis (DEA), will sort and rank occupations on the basis of maximizing skills required and minimizing that occupation's wage resulting in a set of "hiring" efficiency scores. This procedure improves Borda rankings (rankings based on the average of rankings of the individual components), fixed weight, or subjective weighting schemes. In DEA, the linear programming weights or coefficients are explicitly chosen to maximize the discrimination between the skills and wages. A rank correlation between the efficiency scores and various work and demographic variables is performed. The results show a negative correlation between the wage rate and …
The Management Of Performance By Volunteers: The Use Of Performance Feedback, Megan Paull
The Management Of Performance By Volunteers: The Use Of Performance Feedback, Megan Paull
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of feedback by managers and co-ordinators of volunteers in the management of performance by volunteers. Research into the use of feedback in the paid workforce was examined extensively. Additionally, research dealing with the application of human resource management theory to volunteers is discussed. A foundation study conducted to examine the performance management practices in use with volunteers in Western Australia forms the basis for a multi-phase qualitative and quantitative examination of the topic. The perceptions of the managers and coordinators of volunteers, and the volunteers themselves about what constitutes poor …
Downsizing : An Analysis Of Organisational Strategies And Human Resource Management Outcomes, Cecil A. Clabaugh
Downsizing : An Analysis Of Organisational Strategies And Human Resource Management Outcomes, Cecil A. Clabaugh
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
The objective of this research was to examine the relationship between loss and retention of key employees in downsizing organisations and organisational performance. The purpose of this was to develop an understanding of the organisational performance that results when downsizing organisations are unable to retain their key workers. The secondary objective of the research was to examine the factors that make up a downsizing organisation's employee selection process in order to determine how these factors affect loss and retention of key workers. The research was guided by a theoretical framework developed by Kozlowski et al (1993) and Thornhill and Saunders …
Procrastination As A Predictor Of Job Performance, Steven L. Dutschmann
Procrastination As A Predictor Of Job Performance, Steven L. Dutschmann
Theses and Dissertations
It is generally accepted that everyone puts off or delays doing tasks to some extent; however, little is known about how different styles affect job performance. Individual differences in goal orientation (tendency to set goals and objectives), conscientiousness (thoroughness and carefulness in performing a task), autonomy (freedom, independence, and discretion in scheduling work), and temperament (manner of thinking, behaving, and reacting) may have an influence on how efficiently and effectively people prioritize their tasks (or avoid tasks), and thus have an effect on job performance. This study examined the possible importance of procrastination in the workplace, and its effect on …
