As such, the safety attitudes and climate within small (residential) contracting firms may play a role in providing a safe culture and working environment. Job satisfaction among recreation professionals can be affected by many internal and external conditions. This study investigated the impact of 16 variables on the job satisfaction of private sector recreation practitioners. An additional 12 variables were used to describe job responsibilities and organizational characteristics. Three construct measures were used to determine individual wage, benefit and total compensation. The sample consists of 73 complete survey responses from professional members of the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association (RCRA). The Human Resource Competency Study model is used in this research, which is modified to include ‘Willingness’ as an important competency. Labor management relations in the hospitality sector is an important aspect of effective management. Increasingly, unions are becoming proactive in organizing hospitality workers. This manifests itself in strikes, boycotts, picketing, sexual harassment complaints, and complaints to OSHA regarding safety and health workplace violations. This research monitors the current scene with respect to labor management relations and analyzes work issues that have been brought up for third-party resolution by NLRB staff or arbitrators.
