The purpose of this study is to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic's ongoing impact on the U.S. hospitality industry. The report details the primary economic issues the industry faces as well as provides a unique workforce analysis that anticipates continued labor shortages as the country moves towards an endemic. The research was conducted using a national survey with almost 1,000 U.S. hospitality workers. Following the September 11th, 2001 events, the United States has seen the first decline in employment expansion in over a decade. The services industry lost 111,000 jobs, mainly in travel-related businesses like hotels (46,000) and auto services (13,000), in particular auto rental agencies and parking services (U.S. Department of Labor, 2001). During the summer months of 1994 through 2001, the Rosen School of Hospitality Management's Dick Pope Sr. Institute for Tourism Studies at the University of Central Florida has conducted a survey of Central Florida hospitality industry properties regarding wage rates and employee benefits. This ongoing project has been sponsored by the Hotel Human Resource Association of Central Florida and has been supported by the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association.
