From 1987 through 1992 the Las Vegas Flamingo Hilton instituted resource efficiency improvements in electrical, natural gas, water and materials consumption. In 1992, the Flamingo Hilton commissioned the University of Nevada Las Vegas Environmental Studies Department to analyze and quantify the improvements made by The Flamingo Hilton and investigate the potential for further improvements.

Historical billing data from the periods 1987 - 1992 were used to analyze past and present (1992) electric, natural gas and water consumption. Materials disposal data was only available for a ten month period in 1992. Pollutant emissions data were supplied by Nevada Power Company.

The purpose of this research was to investigate what effect current and proposed regulations of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990 would have on independent restaurant operations in the state of Tennessee. A rule proposed in June of 1993 will expand the NLEA to include restaurant menus.

The sample was identified and selected from the population of independent restaurateurs in the state of Tennessee who were members or were eligible for membership in the Tennessee Restaurant Association (TRA) and operated ten units or less. This paper will discuss the current tourism situation in the Caribbean. The two main topics of analyses are the cruise lines and different islands in the Caribbean. The two areas will be presented separately and at the end they will be linked for analyses and conclusion with the help of graphs, charts and surveys.

Puerto Rico, Curacao, Jamaica, and Barbados are the Caribbean islands chosen for this project.

Within the cruise lines section, the paper will review the history of the industry, the reasons behind today's great success, and possible outlooks for the future.
