Ecommerce Market Convergence In Action: Social Casinos And Real Money Gambling, Brett Abarbanel, Ardeshir Rahman

The social casino and real money gambling industries, including gambling at online and live venues (such as casino resorts), are quickly converging (H2 Gambling Capital & Odobo, 2013). Differences in demographics and gambling behaviors for different frequencies of social casino participation among real money online gamblers are examined to explore customer behaviors between the two markets. Frequency of play in social casino games varied depending on gender and education, similar to patterns in real money gambling. Gambling Behaviors Of Former Athletes: The Delayed Competitive Effect, Stephen M. Weiss, Sherri L. Loubier

Gambling behaviors in current athletes, former athletes and non-athletes were examined. Gambling tendencies were determined from participants' responses on the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS). A delayed competitive effect among athletes that might surface in the form of pathological gambling was investigated. To test this novel theory, participants were divided into three groups: athletes who are currently playing sports, former athletes who used to play competitive sports and non-athletes who have never participated in competitive sporting events. An Examination Of University Student Gambling Practices, Michael Yuan, Susan Yuan, Patricia Janes

Concerns about student gambling behavior are often based on the popular opinion that students gamble all the time, that students spend too much money gambling, and that students readily become addicted to gambling. The purpose of this study was to examine whether popular opinions related to student gambling are factually based. This was done by examining the relationship among demographics, gambling practices, and views of personal gambling practices of Central Michigan University students. The study results suggest that these popular opinions regarding student gambling may not be factual, or at least may not be as serious as initially perceived.
