Usf Jamovi Tutorial Project: Open Education Resource, Aline Hitti, Saera Khan

Jamovi is an open source free software that USF staff, faculty and student can download to carry out any statistical analyses. The current report summarizes the progress made on an Open Education Resource Grant funded project, which aimed to created Jamovi tutorials. In this report, student feedback and faculty reaction are summarized after one semester of using the tutorials created.

Get Your Head In The Game: Using Gamification In Business Education To Connect With Generation Y, Sonja Martin Poole, Elyria Kemp, Lauri Patterson, Kimberly Williams

Generation Y learners think and learn differently. They seek learning environments that are relaxed, flexible, interactive, and engaging. Gamification incorporates game mechanics to non-game contexts and has been found to motivate or incentivize students using rewards such as points, badges, and certificates. The purpose of this research is to investigate how utilizing gamification mechanics and customer engagement principles in college business courses can engage and foster learning among Generation Y students. Findings from this research suggest that using gamification techniques in the classroom can be an effective tool for enhancing student engagement and learning. Implications and future research are presented.

With more than 4.6 million people, mostly undergraduates, enrolling in at least one online course in fall of 2008, students are showing that they are comfortable with the concept of technology in education. Many students in online classes, however still have to deal with the high cost of textbooks and supplemental materials. Online technologies, however, can provide other alternatives to costly coursepacks and textbooks. Faculty and students may be able to replace or supplement coursepacks and textbooks with social bookmarking sites. As the impact of blogging continues to grow, public relations practitioners must be prepared to develop and manage constituency relationships by managing and responding to blogs. Journal articles and trade publications encourage academics to introduce blogging in the classroom; however few examples outline the opportunities and challenges that instructors may face during blogging assignments. Using a case study methodology, this paper reports on the professional and personal concerns that students (n = 28) expressed during and after a six-week blog management assignment at a large journalism college in the United States. An individual’s ethical and economic values impact his decision processes when faced with resolving certain dilemmas. The primary issue of this research is to examine the relationship between accounting students’ ethical and economic values and their responses to business dilemmas. Additionally, this study attempted to see if senior accounting students responded with more ethical responses to the dilemmas than did lower-division accounting students.
A measure of ethicality proposed by McCarthy (1997) was compared with subjects’ ethical responses to the business dilemmas. No correlation between the students’ measure of ethicality and the number of ethical responses to business dilemmas was found. …
