Organizing Digital Platforms And Customer Needs For Digital Service Innovation, Gamel O. Wiredu
Organizing Digital Platforms And Customer Needs For Digital Service Innovation, Gamel O. Wiredu
The African Journal of Information Systems
Digital organizations have become highly dependent on digital platforms and customer needs as key resources for digital service innovation. These resources in the competitive environment are making and shaping innovation of digital services because, though external, they remain central to digital organizations’ strategic innovation and competitiveness. Yet, how and why organizing these resources influences digital service innovation is under-explained in the literature. This paper, based on an empirical study and grounded theory methodology, addresses this limitation. It explains that digital service innovation occurs through two complementary types of organizing, namely: foundational knowledge organizing by combining digital platforms and customer needs, …

Modelling Online Advertising Design Quality Influences On Millennial Consumer Attitudes In South Africa, Rodney G. Duffett Dr, Natassha V. Miller Ms
The African Journal of Information Systems
Millennials’ advanced knowledge and exposure to product experiences, and irrelevant placement of online advertising has led to an increase of online advertising avoidance. However, effective online advertising design may assist in establishing more positive sentiments towards digital forms of marketing communication. The study used the visual rhetoric theory as the theoretical basis to examine millennial consumer attitudes. The main research aims were to propose an online advertising design quality model, and to ascertain the influence of online advertising design quality on millennial consumer attitudes. The study employed a quantitative research design via an empirical online survey. Online advertising design quality …

Empirical Study On The Acceptance Of Mobility As A Service (Maas) Based On The Utaut2 Model, Masaki Toyama
Asia Marketing Journal
To achieve the widespread use of Mobility as a Service (MaaS), a novel transportation platform, it is important to increase consumers’ intention to use MaaS. Therefore, this study clarifies the determinants of consumers’ intention to use MaaS based on the UTAUT2 model. The research model is tested using structural equation modeling based on data from a web-based questionnaire survey of Japanese consumers. The results show that performance expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, and price value have significant effects on the intention to use MaaS. Moreover, the relationship between the intention to use MaaS and independent variables is moderated by old …
Is The Peak-Affect Important In Fast Processing Of Visual Images In Printed Ads? : A Comparative Study On The Affect Integration Theories, Kyunghee Bu, Luri Lee
Is The Peak-Affect Important In Fast Processing Of Visual Images In Printed Ads? : A Comparative Study On The Affect Integration Theories, Kyunghee Bu, Luri Lee
Asia Marketing Journal
This study investigates how affects elicited by visual images in print ads are integrated to form a liking for the ads. Assuming a sequential rather than simultaneous processing of still-cut images, we adopt the ‘think-aloud’ method to capture consumers’ spontaneous responses to visual images. We hypothesize that not only would consumers show mixed affects toward a still-cut visual image but that they would also integrate their serial affects heuristically rather than simply averaging the affects as suggested by the compensatory hypothesis. By comparing the effects of two contradictory affect integration hypotheses (i.e., peak-affect and mood-maintenance) with compensatory integration, using a …

Determinants Of Knowledge Sharing: The Roles Of Learning Organization Culture, Empowering Leadership, And Learning Goal Orientation, Yangil Park, Baek-Kyoo Joo
International Journal of Applied Management and Technology
This study examined how knowledge sharing attitudes (KSAs) and knowledge sharing intentions (KSIs) are affected by perceived learning organization culture (LOC), empowering leadership (EL), and learning goal orientation (LGO). From the data collected, we discovered that KSA was a significant partial mediator between KSI and LGO. Furthermore, LOC and EL had moderating roles on the LGO and KSA relationship. Such moderation effects were insignificant for KSI, however. This study incorporated the knowledge sharing research fields of motivation research, leadership, and organizational culture. We comment that this study was centered on relatively highly educated management consultants, as human resource management and …

Finding jobs for university graduates is becoming more difficult as the number of job opportunities available is not proportional to the number of graduates. This situation is aggravated by the low interest of the Indonesian population in entrepreneurship, which is at roughly 3.1%. This study aims to investigate the effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, creativity, attitude toward entrepreneurship, social media, entrepreneurial culture, and motivation on student’s entrepreneurial intentions. Social media is warranted in the study as the respondents are in the group of millennials. A quantitative method was used. The data analysis employed Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares …
Dynamic Return Relationships In The Market For Cryptocurrency: A Var Approach, Julian Gouffray
Dynamic Return Relationships In The Market For Cryptocurrency: A Var Approach, Julian Gouffray
James Madison Undergraduate Research Journal (JMURJ)
This paper examines how the Bitcoin-altcoin return relationship has evolved in periods between 2015 and 2020. To understand this relation, we observe data on the cryptocurrency Bitcoin and prominent altcoins Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Stellar, and Monero, which collectively represent over 90% of the market throughout the observed period. We employ a vector autoregressive model (VAR) to produce forecast error variance decompositions, orthogonal impulse response functions, and Granger-causality tests. We find evidence that Bitcoin return variation has increasingly explained altcoin returns and that market inefficiency increased between 2017 and 2020, as shown by increased Granger causality between Bitcoin and altcoins. These …

Seeded marketing campaign (SMC) is a newly created type of marketing activities with the widespread use of social media. Previous research has examined to find out the optimal seeding strategy that yields the best outcome from the campaign. This research explores the relationships between the characteristics of the seeded influencer and user engagement. The data consists of information from 1,062 seeded Instagram posts posted in September 2020 in Korea and 778 seeded influencers who posted those contents. Analyzed by negative binomial regression, our quadratic model suggests that the relationship between user engagement and the number of followers of the seeded …

The major economic transformations in the world, where many commercial transactions in the world are carried out through electronic correspondence, voice and image remotely, through the Internet, This is due to the developments in the information and communication technology sector. Closing the gender gap on online platforms means the ability to significantly grow global e-commerce markets, but technological progress does not always translate into progress in equality for women, who consistently lag behind men when it comes to accessing and using the digital market. This growing trend of e-commerce presents an interesting opportunity for small businesses and women-owned businesses. The …

Trans-Parasocial Relation Between Influencers And Viewers On Live Streaming Platforms: How Does It Affect Viewer Stickiness And Purchase Intention?, Jeeyeon Kim, Jui-Ting Liu, Sue Ryung Chang
Asia Marketing Journal
Live streaming has become one of the most important communication tools for influencers to synchronously interact with viewers. It is critical to understand the effect of the reciprocal and synchronously interactive relations built between influencers and viewers, so-called trans-parasocial relations, in the context of live streaming. In this study, we investigate how trans-parasocial relations impact viewers’ stickiness and purchase intention on live streaming platforms. Furthermore, we investigate fanship as a mediating factor in the relationship between trans-parasocial relations and viewers’ behaviors. Overall, the results reveal significant direct and indirect effects of trans-parasocial relations on viewers’ stickiness and purchase intention. Higher …
“Fiscal Trap”, The Case Of Greece, Titos Ritsatos
“Fiscal Trap”, The Case Of Greece, Titos Ritsatos
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
Present research aims at the introduction of the term “Fiscal Trap” in economic literature, as a comprehensive definition of the economic situation in which any available combination of fiscal-only policy measures (tax increases and austerity measures), would fail to fulfill fiscal targets during periods of recession. Using recent experience from the case of Greece, an ex-post evaluation of adopted policy effectiveness is pursued. Fiscal austerity and increased taxation enforced in Greece during the years 2009-2012, resulted in decreased tax revenues, lower GDP and increased debt-to-GDP ratio. In order to slip away from the vicious cycle generated by austerity and tax …
The Terrorist Laffer Curve:Rationality And Insurgency In Iraq, 2004-2008, Dennis S. Edwards
The Terrorist Laffer Curve:Rationality And Insurgency In Iraq, 2004-2008, Dennis S. Edwards
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
While the original framework by Arthur Laffer focused on tax rates and the resulting revenue from such taxation, the Laffer curve has been applied to other studies in behavior as well. This paper details evidence of a Laffer curve in Iraq with respect to terrorist violence and Iraqi public support of that violence against the U.S.-led coalition forces. As insurgents began killing more Iraqi citizens in their attacks on U.S.-led forces, the increased lethality caused initial support of such violence to erode. As a result, the high-level terrorist hierarchy has suggested that its operatives reduce lethality and indiscriminate bombings.

Two hypothetical mobile apps were developed; social-focused and information-focused. Data was collected by surveying 400 online shoppers and, analyzed by employing SEM and multi-group analysis techniques using Amos. Results suggest that a mobile app that is socially focused enhances the customer experience and customer engagement behavior respectively. Next, the need for touch provides boundary conditions between customer experience and customer engagement behavior. Behavioral experience can be enhanced by improving online customer experience with the help …
Understanding Millennials Regarding Online Versus In-Store Grocery Shopping Preferences, Timothy L. Schauer
Understanding Millennials Regarding Online Versus In-Store Grocery Shopping Preferences, Timothy L. Schauer
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Grocery shopping has changed in significant ways over the last 150 years – all to allow customers to choose their own items (Strasser, 1989). Within the last decade, large U.S. supermarkets, like Kroger, Walmart, and Safeway have rolled out online stores (Perez, 2015). However, in 2017, when the Internet-based giant, Amazon, acquired Whole Foods and developed the Amazon Go concept store, the march toward online-only sales came into question. The purpose of this research is to attempt to understand the preferences associated with Millennials regarding online versus in-store grocery shopping preferences. This paper provides the following contributions. First, it extends …
Keeping The Faith: The Impact Of Religiosity On Controversial Social Justice Advertising, Rebecca Rast, Josh Coleman, Christina S. Simmers
Keeping The Faith: The Impact Of Religiosity On Controversial Social Justice Advertising, Rebecca Rast, Josh Coleman, Christina S. Simmers
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Religious individuals have traditionally responded negatively to controversial advertising; however, little has been examined in their response to brand activism in the form of social justice issues. Interestingly, brands may find support from more religious individuals when promoting certain social issues. Across three studies using two social networks (Twitter and Instagram), this research demonstrates that individuals who identify as more religious (compared to those who identify as less religious) consistently display higher attitudes, intentions, and perceptions of authenticity for brands supporting social justice issues (precisely racial inequality, or “Black Lives Matter”). These findings are explained through social identity theory, in …
Central Bank Independence: An Examination Of Monetary And Economic Stability Through Ordinary And Extraordinary Times, Carroll Griffin, Yun Cheng
Central Bank Independence: An Examination Of Monetary And Economic Stability Through Ordinary And Extraordinary Times, Carroll Griffin, Yun Cheng
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
The idea of central bank independence (CBI) has been widely accepted over the last several decades by many countries around the world, both developed and developing. As such, many countries around the world granted autonomy to their central banks during the 1980s and 1990s. Although the majority of past studies have primarily examined the impact of central bank independence on inflation, there is only now sufficient date to empirically determine whether many of these claims are true. This study examines central bank independence over the long-term (1960 to 2015) to determine to what extent central bank independence has helped to …
Guess Who Is Not Using Mobile Money In Sub-Saharan Africa?, Aparna Gosavi
Guess Who Is Not Using Mobile Money In Sub-Saharan Africa?, Aparna Gosavi
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
Mobile money, which is a mobile-phone-based service, sends and/or receives money across a wide geographical area with just a touch of a mobile-phone button. This particular financial product was initially introduced in Kenya in the early part of 2007. Within the first six months of its introduction in Kenya, more than two million people enrolled for the service, partly because the utility emerged as a handy tool for urban migrants to send money back home to their families who resided in villages. This overwhelming response to the service was mainly because of its convenience, safety, and speed. Now, in Sub-Saharan …
Impairment Recognition And Revaluation– China Publicly Listed Companies, Ying Wang
Impairment Recognition And Revaluation– China Publicly Listed Companies, Ying Wang
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
The advent of SFAS 142 and IAS 36 regarding handling of asset impairment has spawned research into how these standards influence whether an impairment loss is recorded. Deferred tax items in China have three major components: temporary tax and financial reporting differences in depreciation; impairment losses; and previous losses, which can be carried forward for five years for tax purposes. While the temporary differences in depreciation typically defer taxes and create deferred tax liabilities, impairment losses and previous losses create deferred tax assets because they are not deductible in the current period for tax purposes. A deferred tax asset is …

Analysis Of The Comovement Of Unemployment In Midwestern States, Tammy Rapp Parker
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
The current paper investigates the interrelatedness of twelve Midwestern states through the comovement of unemployment rates. Due to their geographic location, we would anticipate similarities and comovement among macroeconomic variables. The results show that although most of the bivariate pairings do show a relationship. Five of the sixty-five pairings show no indication of cointegration among their unemployment rates. Each of these five pairings includes North Dakota. The paper investigates geographic and socioeconomic similarities between these states to try to explain these results.
Baumol And Bowen Cost Effects In Research Universities, Robert E. Martin
Baumol And Bowen Cost Effects In Research Universities, Robert E. Martin
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
We estimate cost models for both public and private research universities and use partial differentials from these models to estimate different cost effects. The results suggest both Baumol’s cost disease and Bowen’s revenue theory drive cost higher and that Bowen effects are larger than Baumol effects. Tight revenue since 2008 reversed some declines in productivity and accelerated the trend in economizing on the use of tenure track faculty. This behavior under loose and tight revenue constraints is consistent with Bowen’s revenue theory.
Credit Market Innovations And Gross Domestic Income, Ellis Heath
Credit Market Innovations And Gross Domestic Income, Ellis Heath
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
In this paper I compare the effects of different credit variables on real output in the US. However, instead of using real Gross Domestic Product as a proxy for real output, I use real Gross Domestic Income. I use a VAR framework with generalized impulse response functions and generalized variance decompositions. I look at a credit aggregate and different credit spreads. I find that shocks to some credit variables can have significant effects on real output; the reaction, however, is a temporary one. Specifically, measures of the risk premium and the term premium have the most importance in explaining innovations …

Gambling Or Skill: Taxation Issues Surrounding The Daily Fantasy Sports Industry, Keith Lowe, Benjamin B. Boozer Jr.
Southern University College of Business E-Journal
With a waxing interest in sporting events, participants are increasingly supplementing passive viewing with a more active role. Fantasy sports leagues have burgeoned as a result, with corresponding increases in live game attendance and media consumption across platforms. Fantasy bettors seek financial gain through the ability of athletes and the likelihood of their team performing well in a sporting event. A major legislative concern within this industry is whether these activities are considered gambling, with its related stigma, or otherwise just a type of sporting activity. More importantly, gambling has a long history as a major source of tax revenue …
