Abstract

Calamities such as the 2007-2009 Great Recession, caused by the collapse of the housing market mainly incited by low interest rates and easy credit, leave a trail of profound and devastating damage in their wake. High rates of unemployment, stock market crashes and reduction in consumption rate etc. are but a few of the effects. There is evidence of certain nations being better equipped to field economic downturns such as recessions or environmental calamities such as floods and storms. The interest area for this research was to ascertain the impact that the 2009 great recession had on exports of …

What Happened In The Past: How Experience Does Not Mean Squat When It Comes To Adapting To The Changing Nature Of Work, Shawn M. Bergman Oct 2022

What Happened In The Past: How Experience Does Not Mean Squat When It Comes To Adapting To The Changing Nature Of Work, Shawn M. Bergman

River Cities Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference

The magnitude and pace of workplace change mean that individuals also need to adapt and change their approach to solving modern business problems. The fact that analysis, creativity, and adaptability skills are continually listed as some of the most in-demand employee skills indicate that the workforce has not kept up. Instead, people rely on experience and intuition to solve novel problems. This reliance is concerning because neither have ever been listed as in-demand employee attributes and because experience often has a negative relationship with job performance. The session will introduce a decision-making framework and problem-solving approach, which first involves understanding …

The Effect Of Innovation Performance On The Pricing In Private Placement, Tong Liu Aug 2022

The Effect Of Innovation Performance On The Pricing In Private Placement, Tong Liu

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

We propose a research project examining the effect of firms’ innovation performance in the pricing of private equity placements, namely private investments in public equity (PIPEs). We investigate whether firms’ previous innovation outputs have been considered in the PIPE issuance. Innovative activities are important for firms to gain strategic advantage against their competitors. Firms with innovative opportunities frequently lack capital. However, financing innovation tends to be more difficult due to the uncertainty and information asymmetry (Acharya and Xu, 2017). Compared to public firms, private firms have the limitations to access the broader investor pool and higher cost of capital. Unlike …

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

Deep space asteroid mining presents the opportunity for the collection of critical resources required to establish a cis-lunar infrastructure. In specific, the Project Khepri team has focused on the collection of water from asteroid Bennu. This water has the potential to provide a source of clean-energy propellant as well as an essential consumable for humans or agriculture on crewed trips to the Moon or Mars. This would avoid the high costs of launching from Earth - making it a highly desirable element for the future of cis-lunar infrastructure. The OSIRIS-REx mission provided a complete survey of asteroid Bennu and is …

The Use Of Social Listening In Understanding The Consumer Perception, Attitudes, Emotions, And Predicting The Purchase Intentions, Ubedullah Khoso

3rd IBA SBS International Conference 2024

Purpose: The objective of this research is to use social listening in exploring the factors which affect the consumers’ perceptions, attitude, and emotions which lead to purchase intentions.

Introduction and Literature Review: Over 3.8 billion people use social media that is around 45% of the world’s population(Statista, 2022). The ever evolving technologies and the adaption of these technologies is changing how we access information, how we communicate, and how we respond to different stimuli (Ospina, 2019). How we communicate, listen, and interpret using a domain of social media is termed as social listening (Stewart & Arnold, 2018). Specifically, social listening …

Statistical Study Into The World Of Nft Investing And The Process Behind It, Daon Morris, Teddy Gamboa, Akeisha Belgrave

Harrisburg University Research Symposium: Highlighting Research, Innovation, & Creativity

For the purpose of this project, we gathered data from the young adults and adults of the Harrisburg University campus in support of the fact that NFT’s are not like other forms of investments in terms of the strategy used. Rather, the way people invest in them is by just simply looking at the picture, and whatever NFT people think looks cool is the NFT that will skyrocket in value.(Class Project)

Branding, Internationalization And Performance Of Restaurant Chains, Saarthak Bhatia, Joel Smith

Symposium of Student Scholars

Every year, restaurant companies try and find new and innovative ways to grow their business. Many companies look towards creating new brands and expanding internationally as a means of achieving this goal but do multibranding and the scope of internationalization (number of countries) have an influence on the firm performance of restaurant companies? We dive into this by looking at data from over 100 publicly traded companies to see what the results show.

The examination period for this study was 1997 to 2019. Data for 2013-2019 is still being collected. Sample selection started with 118 publicly traded restaurant firms listed …

Extracurriculars: An Investment In Tomorrow’S Generation, Charles Merriam

Student Research Symposium

High school age students across the country find themselves either underperforming in or dropping out entirely from high school. This already alarming issue increases in severity when we discover that the majority of these students belong to groups that need what a high school diploma has to offer the most. My research aimed at discovering how involvement extracurricular activities can motivate these students and provide them with the tools necessary to succeed. I investigated the topic using the University Library Database and other online databases to collect and evaluate primary and secondary sources. These sources focused mostly on studies that …

Geospatial Analysis Of Drug-Related Crimes In Local Communities In Utah, Erin Crump

Student Research Symposium

According to the 2021 World Drug Report released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), over 36 million people among 275 million people who used drugs worldwide suffered from drug use disorders in 2020 alone. In addition, the number of people who use drugs is estimated to increase by 11 percent globally by 2030. Therefore, there exists a strong need to further understand drug usage and drug-related crimes to address prevention and intervention policies. In particular, the identification of geographical locations with frequent drug-related crimes is very critical for law enforcement agencies and state/federal governments to establish …

General Adversarial Networks In Tumor-Related Research: A Review And Agenda For Moving Forward, Andrew James Behrens, Cherie Noteboom

SDSU Data Science Symposium

Recent advances in Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have led to many new variants and uses of GANs. The latest advancements have allowed researchers and practitioners to apply this technique to tumor-related problems with limited data. One of the trends in this problem domain is to develop different variants of GANs suited explicitly to particular problems. The variants of GANs are numerous but share a common characteristic of expanding the dataset by creating synthetic data from the original dataset. This paper aims to develop a research agenda through a systematic literature review that investigates practitioners' and researchers' emerging issues and current …
