Family-owned businesses constitute a substantial portion of the workforce and GDP in South Africa and, with limited work opportunities in the public sector, play a significant role in job creation. As a result, family enterprises significantly influence South Africa's economy. This study aims to understand consumer loyalty towards family-owned businesses as brands by investigating family-owned businesses in the small mining town "Stilfontein" in the North-West Province, South Africa. Qualitative data collection involved semi-structured interviews with customers of family businesses to gather insights into brand loyalty. Assessing Career Development Curriculum Within A Business Capstone, Molly Wickam

This study sought to assess how career development curriculum embedded in business capstones provides learning experiences that bridge college to career. Experiential learning theory, andragogy, and Social Cognitive Career Theory were used to create and assess a class assignment named Business Capstone Bingo. Case study research design using qualitative descriptive methodology and thematic analysis was employed. Findings showed that participants preferred career development activities over non-career development activities, LinkedIn is a valuable career development tool, and professional resume assistance is helpful to adult undergraduates earning a bachelor’s degree. This study assessed alignment between concepts included in current definitions of Entrepreneurial Spirit and job descriptions written by employers seeking undergraduate business administration or management degrees. In addition, a research-based definition of the Entrepreneurial Spirit was sought. A literature review generated concepts attributed to the Entrepreneurial Spirit. The quantitative conceptual content analysis examined job descriptions from Indeed. Implementation, creativity, and collaboration were concepts most appearing in job descriptions. The Marketing Manager job title contained the most Entrepreneurial Spirit concepts. Findings identified skills that are explicit in job descriptions which is useful for employers seeking Entrepreneurial Spirit in their hires.

This article explores an alternative to traditional approaches to evangelism in the workplace. it presents an approach based on using the language of business alone in conversations with coworkers, suppliers and customers. While it is often taboo to talk about religion in secular organizations, opportunities exist for believers to be not just silent witnesses but rather explicit verbal witnesses to Jesus Christ. Business conversations naturally present opportunities to champion the theological identity and character traits of Jesus Christ without mentioning his name.

This study examined if sustainable leadership in U.S. banking institutions had a statistical correlation to profitability between the period of 2008 and 2017. The problem addressed was the impact of sustainable leadership on the profitability of banking institutions in the U.S. was not known. The study was significant because of the increased amount of pressure within the financial sector to increase long-term stability while maintaining profitability. Tax Abatement Disclosures: An Exploratory Study Of Professional's Perceptions And Early Disclosures Of Gasb Statement No. 77, M. Fischer, Amy Foshee Holmes

School of Business Faculty Research

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) adopted Statement No. 77 requiring government disclosure of tax abatements in audited financial reports for years beginning after December 15, 2015. This paper reports survey findings provided by accounting and finance professionals (practitioners) regarding their tax abatement reporting perceptions. We then review early implementation of the abatement disclosure and find the disclosed information does not meet the practitioner’s expectations. Our findings fill a gap in state and local financial reports as it appears the new disclosure requirement does not fulfill the Board’s reporting transparency expectation goals.
