The Impact Of Employee Engagement On Job Performance And Organisational Commitment In The Egyptian Banking Sector, Dr. Maha Ahmed Zaki Dajani Dec 2015

The Impact Of Employee Engagement On Job Performance And Organisational Commitment In The Egyptian Banking Sector, Dr. Maha Ahmed Zaki Dajani

Business Administration

During the past two decades, employee engagement became a very popular managerial construct. Organisations use different engagement building tools in order to stay competitive and improve performance. Though there is an increasing contribution in human resource consulting agencies on the concept of employee engagement, yet there is a shortage of academic studies on that construct, especially in emerging economies countries. This engagement gap grew more in importance amidst the waves of ongoing recession and resource scarcity battles prevailing in the Middle Eastern Region, in general, and in Egypt in particular. This is an exploratory study that aims to identify the …

The Efficiency And Productivity Analysis Of Large Logistics Providers Services In Korea, Sunchon National University, Yong Joo Lee

Finance and Supply Chain Faculty Scholarship

In the fierce competition at the global logistics markets, Korean logistics providers were deemed more vulnerable than global logistics providers in terms of the quality and price competitiveness. To strengthen their competitiveness, logistics providers in Korea have focused on delivering integrated logistics services. In this regard, the Korean government has enacted the “Integrated Logistics Industry Certification Act” in 2006 to assist integrated logistics providers to offer logistics services based on their specialization and differentiation. It has been several years since the system was implemented, and the evaluation of the system implementation was necessary. Hence, in our study, we attempt to …

The Problem Of Masculinity For Male Health, Kieran Geary, Maurice Murphy Dec 2015

The Problem Of Masculinity For Male Health, Kieran Geary, Maurice Murphy

Dept. of Management & Enterprise Publications

Men’s health has historically received little attention in terms of consultation, planning, strategy development or project implementation, but in recent years there has been an increased focus on gender in the context of men’s health. Whilst in the past the focus on gender and health in Ireland has tended to be synonymous with women’s health, the significance of gendered health practices (particularly gendered patterns of help-seeking) have more recently come to the forefront in the context of men. Men’s reluctance to seek help and use health services is a concern across most Western cultures. Some commentary has suggested that men …

Do Commitment Based Human Resource Practices Influence Job Embeddedness And Intention To Quit?, Debjani Ghosh, L. Gurunathan Dec 2015

Do Commitment Based Human Resource Practices Influence Job Embeddedness And Intention To Quit?, Debjani Ghosh, L. Gurunathan

Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

This empirical paper provides evidence that commitment based human resource practices (CBHRP) influence employees' turnover intentions by embedding newcomers more extensively into organisations. The study was conducted with 501 managers in 19 financial service organisations in India. Results reveal that CBHRP enable organisations to actively embed employees. The results also indicate that on-the-job embeddedness (on-the-JE) is negatively related to turnover intentions and mediates relationships between CBHRP and employees' intention to quit.

Attitudinal Predictors Of Relative Reliance On Human Vs. Automated Advisors, Stephanie M. Merritt, Ruchi Sinha, Paul G. Curran, Daniel R. Ilgen

College of Business Administration Faculty Works

Trust and liking are attitudes with important implications for automation reliance in single-advisor settings; however, the extent to which their relationships with reliance generalise to settings in which the user receives conflicting advice from a human and automation is unknown. Participants completed an X-ray screening task and received simultaneous advice from what they believed was another human and an automated aid. High disuse was found for both advisors. Among participants who relied on advice, those with greater relative liking for the automation than for the human significantly increased their reliance on the automation relative to the human during the first …

Responsible Accounting For Stakeholders, Jeffrey S. Harrison, Joyce Van Der Van Der Laan Smith Nov 2015

Responsible Accounting For Stakeholders, Jeffrey S. Harrison, Joyce Van Der Van Der Laan Smith

Accounting Faculty Publications

Through a critique of existing financial theory underlying current accounting practices, and reapplication of this theory to a broad group of stakeholders, this paper lays a normative foundation for a revised perspective on the responsibility of the public accounting profession. Specifically, we argue that the profession should embrace the development of standards for reporting information important to a broader group of stakeholders than just investors and creditors. The FASB has recently moved in the opposite direction. Nonetheless, an institution around accounting for stakeholders continues to grow, backed by a groundswell of support from many sources. Based on institutional theory, we …

Weighing The Options: Conversations On The Use Of Performance Enhancing Gear In Powerlifting, Dominic G. Morais, Ben Pollack, Jan Todd

School of Business Faculty Research

The subject of supportive gear in powerlifting has been controversial from the earliest days in the sport. While our article "Shifting Gear," also in this issue, provides an historical overview of the use of powerlifting gear, we came to believe as we were working on it that including the voices of active and retired powerlifters would broaden our understanding of this debate. Accordingly, we interviewed a number of individuals with different backgrounds in the sport in order to explore their attitudes and experiences with gear. Our hope is that their thoughts on this important topic will help readers develop a …

Shifting Gear: A Historical Analysis Of The Use Of Supportive Apparel In Powerlifting, Jan Todd, Dominic G. Morais, Ben Pollack, Terry Todd

School of Business Faculty Research

In many ways, powerlifting is an odd sport. Competitors do not run or jump; no balls, bats, or rackets are used; and only one competitor "plays" on the lifting platform at a time. Judging can be highly subjective; three judges intently watch as the athlete lifts the loaded barbell nine separate times over the course of the competition. There is no instant replay and most lifts take less than ten seconds to perform. At the end of the lift, each judge throws a switch; if at least two white lights appear, the lift is good; if two or more lights …

Alpha And Omega: When Bullies Run In Packs, Patricia Meglich, Andra Gumbus Nov 2015

Alpha And Omega: When Bullies Run In Packs, Patricia Meglich, Andra Gumbus

WCBT Faculty Publications

While workplace bullying often involves multiple perpetrators, limited research has investigated this important aspect of the phenomenon. In the present study, we explored the perceived severity and comparison of actual behaviors experienced when different perpetrators attack the target. Survey results showed that bullying by one’s supervisor is perceived to be more severe than bullying by a group of coworkers and that coworkers are more likely to bully when the supervisor bullies. When working as a group, bullies focus their attack on the target’s personal life rather than on his or her work life. Implications for research and practice are provided.
